30k service

I just called my 2 local Toyota dealerships and one of them quoted me 230$ and wait time of 2-3 hours and the other quoted me 380$ and wait time of 6 hours for a 30k service.
Are these average prices for a 30k services? Any clue why one is so much more expensive than the other?

30k mile service is what? Spark Plug change?

I don't know...my Subaru WRX reached 188,000KM (116,000Miles) on the original spark plugs without issue lol

Honestly I don't know. That's why I'm bringing it to a dealership which I hate doing...

As best I can tell it's an inspection and fluid change.

There was actually a thread a while back from a member in WA State about a service manager trying to bend him over saying that the plugs were part of the 30k service (they're not).

Plugs are every 60k according to Toyota.

Subaru's 30k service guideline is:
30,000 miles
Inspect automatic transmission fluid
Replace brake fluid
Inspect disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions
Inspect brake linings and drums
Perform inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system
Inspect clutch operation
Inspect steering and suspension
Perform rotate and inspect tires
Recommended Inspection fuel systems, lines and connections
Replace a/c filter
Inspect drive belt(s) [except camshaft]
Inspect engine coolant systems, hoses and connections
Replace engine oil
Replace engine oil filter
Recommended Inspection fuel systems, lines and connections
Replace air cleaner element

Basically, replace/clean your air filters and change your fluids and make sure nothing is fucked up and broken. That's an afternoon job if you've got a jack stand.

I'm doing mine next week and I think it's gonna run me a little less than $200 all told. Cabin Air Filter from RockAuto, clean/oil my air filter, Eneos 0w20, Motul Gear 300, and ATE Super Blue, then just make sure everything runs right and isn't destroyed.

There we go, that sounds about right. 60k, not 30k for spark plugs.

I took my car in today for 30K, which should include replace Brake Fluid, after a hour or so, dealership called to tell me that the service was done! after quickly looking at the receipt, it came up to be $201.88 after tax.
But Brake fluid was not changed:
Break down items as follow:
30K SERVICE:----------118.48
OIL FILTER:---------------7.49
GASKET:-------------------2.66
CABIN FILER:------------38.87
5QTS 0W20:--------------22.45
Shop Disposal:-----------10.66

Please tell me I did not get screwed by dealership! I usually perform my own oil change every 2.5K miles, the only reason i took in for service is to keep the car covered under warranty! and I was expecting to have the brake fluid changed.
I'll probably need to head back and have a chat with their service director...
any other input or suggestions? thanks

I'm almost reaching my 30K maintenance and yes brake fluid change is on the list. Looks like they missed it.

But I would have to say you got screwed on the cabin filter. $38.87 is a rip off. I bought a carbon cabin filter from amazon for around $14 and just replaced it myself in two minutes.

30k service is a total hoax. The real items are:
1. Oil change
2. Rotation
3. Engine air filter
4. Cabin AC air filter
5. Brake fluid change

For 3 and 4, unless you live in a very dusty place, really no need to worry about it. Just take them out and inspect. Remove any leaves etc by vacuuming them carefully and you are done. One filter can last minimum 60k.

For 5, I used to replace it myself on my SUV every 3 years, then 4 years, then 5 years and I can never tell any difference. I had a car for which the first time I changed brake fluid was 14 years later. And I could not tell any difference. So if you drive like a sane driver, 5/6 years is good enough.

In short, just treat 30k as a normal oil change and rotation. Leave the heavy lifting to 60k.

What about brake pads?

The clutch fork thingy I keep hearing about? What ever it is that fails on peoples stock clutches?

I'm about to have some extra money and I'm at 34k Miles...figure it's probably about time to get it looked at to make sure everything is ok.

Call them and ask them. My dealership charged me $99 for the brake fluid job, and typically charges around $80 for an oil/filter change (they bill for six quarts since the car takes 5.7 US quarts.. not sure why your receipt only billed for five quarts). If the $118 IS for the brake fluid change, and they only charged you $22.45 for five quarts of full synthetic (that's about $4.50/quart.. you can't buy Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, or LubroMoly for that; they gave you a GOOD price on the oil), you did pretty well. Yes, changing the cabin air filter is a 5 minute job, but hey, they've gotta make their money someplace. Find out if the $118 was for the brake fluid. If it was, sleep good tonight.. ya done fine.

Think you mean the throw out bearing. Those are sort of a case of it is fine or it isn't. If it isn't fine (and you would know if it wasn't) you need to get it fixed. If it is fine then there is no advantage to getting it changed

Brake pads will only need to be changed if worn past a certain level. They will inspect and recommend if they need to be changed. No need to change just for the sake of changing.

What if they lie to you and say your brakes need to be changed but then you tell them let me go into the work area and let me see them with my own eyes and they be like

Meh that can happen but it can happen with everything.
I recently had to have the flux capacitor on my computer cleaned. Cost me $200 but the guy that did it remotely over the internet was really nice and promised that he would delete the picture of my credit card as soon as he was done with it.
