No shims, and no grease as it instantly sizzles smokes and burns when tracking Will report after my next tracking day as to results of hard use. I hope the pads will be useful on the track due to the overbraking capacity of the stage IV and hi bias on a light car ( the track pads are very abrasive and erode the discs quickly ) |

Are you saying there are no Carbotechs for the rears, so I have to get some custom cut down?

This is what happens when you modify your brakes to non stock. My 04 WRX has 4 pots up front and the H6 upgrade on the rear from the legacy. It runs 02-03 shaped pads. I have ordered 04 pads by accident and had to exchange. Getting old you can forget things.

The 1521s have been working great...I have barely minor/occasional noise to none. Thanks to RR for the recommendation.
I wanted to shift towards the performance on this kit, seems like there hasn't been an update for a while I am about to go to the first HPDE this season in 2 weeks or so and I plan to run an X8 set up squared in my stage 1 front only, hoping braking is strong How have recent experiences been in terms of performance and reliability? For those running fronts, have you guys been able to measure temps across front and rears after runs and confirm the bias? How often are you locking up? How has your performance been vs other stock and different set up 86s on track? When I was researching pads for track, I called Carbotech directly and spoke to one of their engineers who told me to do some spirited braking and measure temps afterwards to determine heat distribution and get a brake recommendation. I could only get it so hot on the street but from some heavy braking, it seems that the fronts are slightly getting hotter than the rear but the distribution is fairly balanced. Carbotech then recommended going with the XP8s both front and rear given the readings. He had advised against going with a higher compound in the rear given it may lock the rear faster than the front and cause a spin. So based on this, looks like the kit bias is close to OEM as advertised. Looking to see what others are experiencing Last edited by Jedifar; 06-09-2020 at 05:03 PM. Reason: Pictures did not post |

Secondly. I have the Stage II front and Sport Rear. The RR kit does very well on the track. Since installing the kit I have removed my brake cooling because I could no longer get the temps hot enough for the pads to work properly (DTC60) even at Watkins Glen. With proper braking technique you shouldn't be locking up although I have buzzed ABS a few times when pushing a little too hard. It is easier to activate the ABS with this kit if that is what you are asking. The bias feels better than OEM but I have no proof it is better, other than what RR said. After 2500 track miles in 2019 the kit held up well. I had uneven pad wear in the front which seemed odd but rebuilt them and so far so good for the limited miles I have on the car in 2020. I recommend spending some money on pads and buy cheap rotors on rock auto. CSG's compounds are amazing and I was told they are coming out with a front set for the willwoods. I know G-loc makes a set as well I would be interested in trying. I went through 1.5 sets of front rotors last year (2500 track miles) but at 50 bucks each, you cant complain. If my brake component ocd wasnt so bad I could have ran 1 set the whole year. I wish the quality was a little better on a few of the components as I have communicated in this thread but overall, for the money, it works great on the track. Unless you are some sort of prodigy, the stage 1 kit will be overkill for your first track day. Just make sure the fluid is fresh and preferably not the oem fluid.

I decided to stick with carbotechs since I have the 1521s and they are interchangeable with higher carbotechs. I'm glad to hear you've had a good experience. I know its overkill but I've done some track cross last year completely stock (my first year) and going to hit the ground running with hpde this year. Concerned about the rebuilding though, I'll have to learn how to rebuild if this is a consistent issue with these kits. |

I just got the 1521s. Excited to try these. I would prefer to install these on fresh rotors or resurfaced rotors, but I think my rotors are smooth enough.

When threshold braking, I can hear the front tires chirp first, even with the more aggressive pads on the rear, so I can say the fronts will lock first. I let a friend with stickier tires (a052) and stock brakes on his BRZ drive my car and he loved how strong and consistent my brakes were. Both he and I were braking deeper into the brake zones with my setup vs. his due to knowing that the brakes wouldn't fade. Personally I love being able to trust my brakes over repeated laps and also knowing the consumable costs are much lower as well.
