just realized a few days ago how thin/flat? s2k fenders were at the peak of the wheel well. everything must be really clear, low feeling, and unobtrusive in an s2k cockpit view.

but one of the things i loved when I test drove an 86 before buying was seeing those huge lumps of fender curving beautifully across each side of the front through the windshield.

i feel like these first gen cars have already obtained a classic and timeless design/silhouette

I wouldn't be surprised if he followed the car and got some better shots and is currently shopping around to see which media outlet will offer him the most.

if he was smart, he'd take a picture of a subaru accent's engine bay and claim to have the inside line on motor details!

I also like the way that the current front fenders appear when driving. I feel like I'm driving a Porsche... just a little bit.

But at the same time, from a lot of angles, the front fender looks bulbous and kind of ugly with stock rims and ride height. If you have nice rims and a drop it looks like the fender is wrapping around the tire, and the tire is pushing through the car and it looks sexy.

So for stock wheels and tires, I like that they got rid of it. But yea, for some people, I think it is a big loss.

I do like the fenders on the current gen. The FD RX-7 has sleeker fender flares and it’s one of the best looking cars made IMO. I guess we’ll see once it comes out. It looks like they’re not completely gone on the next gen, just not as pronounced.

I thought the Zupra was the modern day 2000GT.

meh. 86 has the fenders and the more similar side and rear quarter window. first gen taillights were sort altezza styled that look like they were inspired by the taillihgts

I don't think the 2000gt inspired the supra or 86. Way different eras. Just my humble opinion

Right, but the overall proportion, two seater, straight six/long hood, and pillars and roofline are similar in both the 2000GT and BMW Zupra. All the design videos on the FT1 they kept bringing up the styling cue connection to the 2000GT.

Quote:
AM: There’s been a lot of talk about how you employed elements of previous Supra and the 2000 GT in the design. Can you tell me what those are?

NN: For example, the front and side window graphics are intended to remind you of the 2000 GT. And the roof, we have the double-bubble type of shape. The 2000 GT had that kind of shape. We also tried to make the lights positioned inward as much as possible from the front or rear view, and show the fender volume from the front or rear. That’s 2000 GT or the A80 Supra. The previous Supra also used the same kind of techniques for its styling. If this was a bigger car with a bigger cabin and proportions, and we put the headlamps inside, it’s a kind of funny face. But this time, the cabin is very tight so we can express some condensed feeling, so it’s a kind of heritage of 2000 GT or previous Supra.
