Question Radio/Nav head unit is stuck on blank screen

Hello everyone, new to the forums and BRZ ownership, and I have an issue here and I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a clear cut answer before I make another mistake. I tried to find an answer with the search function, but couldn't find a topic with my exact issue I'm having right now.

The issue is when I was testing something on my car, I had disconnected the battery for a good 15 or so minutes. After I was done, I reconnected it but noticed that when I start the car, the infotainment screen was blank and would just alter different brightness levels. When the SD card was removed it would ask for one to be placed in to be programmed. When I did that though, the screen would go blank. I realized that I didn't remove it before disconnecting the battery. My question is now, did I corrupt the SD card or the head unit, or both? Thanks for the help.

im not a BRZ owner, but I would think if you put the SD card back and pulled the battery leads again it should work, if it doesn't I would think its a faulty unit. but again I have never had the BRZ unit so I could easily be wrong.

I tried that and any combination of disconnecting the battery, radio fuse and head unit. Still nothing from it :/. Thanks though.

I have a 16 STI and I can assure you this type of stuff is common. Subaru can't make a decent head unit to save their life.

I'm not a big audio or stereo guy, but I've never hated a stereo system so much in a vehicle until I bought my STI lol. In fact, it's the number one thing I hate.

I'm curious if the 18MY+ unit is any better.

Subaru doesn’t “make” head units, but I agree... this is my 3rd Subaru and the factory head unit in all three has sucked. Even before test driving my BRZ, I already knew that I was going to replace the head unit and that is exactly what I did. The Pioneer Android Auto/CarPlay head unit that I installed is better than the factory one in every way possible.
To the OP, if resetting power to the unit doesn’t fix it... just let the dealership deal with it under warranty or replace the POS with an aftermarket head unit.
