For my 86 friends racing in Michelin Cup on Sunday...

Have you experienced Zwartkops in a torrential downpour on worn semis?
You could have the opportunity for that on Sunday.
Wha-ha-ha!!

There's one big advantage though - minimal traffic.
Everyone else is too poep-bang to go out on track.

The biggest risk is going off onto the grass.
It's like ice skating. You don't stop until you hit something...
Gravel traps work well in the wet, but sadly, one doesn't necessarily
have a choice of where you go off.

Video seems to be anavailable

I'll make sure to bring an umbrella to watch you fine folks on Sunday, quite looking forward to it.

Results from Michelin Cup Round 3 - Time Attack at Zwartkops.
104 competitors, the biggest field I've ever seen at one of these events.
Organisation on the day was excellent, big thanks to the organisers.
After the first session, cars were seeded into groups based on times achieved which worked very well to get a good flow going.
The result sheet is so long, it's hard to read, but here it is anyway.
Folks on this forum:
@Gregore, GT86, 7th class B, 62nd overall, 1m20.980
@FT_86_SM_GP, Honda Type-R FK2, 3rd class E, 10th overall, 1m14.213
@JouMaSeHoes, Lotus 7, 1st class A, 42nd overall, 1m18.241
@Fish Eagle, GT86SC, 2nd class D, 18th overall, 1m15.500

Here's a video of my second session.
This was a typical Time Attack session:
- Warm-up, normally 2 laps
- Spot a gap in the traffic, and manuevre into the gap
- Drop as far back in the gap as traffic behind allows
- To create as much space as possible in front
- Stick it!! Do a few hot laps
- Cool down and keep out of everyone else's way.

Awesome fun, but hard work for an old man.
I didn't have a good result, but @Gregore did very well

Here's the results sheet.
I'll put up some photos once they're available

If you're interested, here's a video clip (anticlockwise) of a hot lap and a cool down lap.
Not really a "cool down" because you have to get your butt off the track quickly.
The next group's already on track and caning it behind you

The track was cold and slippery and no time to properly warm up semis, so I battled with excessive wheelspin in 2nd.
I kept TC on to help manage wheelspin because my throttle control's not too good, but with hindsight, I think I'd have done better with it off.

Racing time attack with a car on a go-kart track is great fun, but I don't have the right skills for it.
Nevertheless, it was a blast!!

Thanks for posting the pics!

The photographer did a good job our cars look very pretty

I am really enjoying the semis (RE11s) on the 86. It makes the front end feel even more precise and connected.

The Michelin cup guys did an awesome job on Sat and the VKC event was one of my favourite track days so far, I expect that RedStar this week might beat it though

Luckily I don't have Fish Eagles torque and I found it a little easier to put power down, the circuit was very slippery in the morning and there were 2 big spills covering the whole track. So lots of PVC cement was swept around by the poor marshals.

Despite all that, the car was wonderful to drive as always and I had way too much fun!

Michelin Cup Time Attack at Red Star Raceway on Sunday!!
Whoop-whoop!!

It's going to be an awesome event.
In addition to Michelin Cup series entries, it's open for day entries.
Entries close at midday Thursday. So far there are 88 entrants.
C'mon on. Just do it...
http://michelincup.co.za/Home/Registrations

Or, if you just want to watch, spectators are free.

I've already prepped my car.
Oil - OK
Brake fluid - OK
Clutch fluid - OK
Coolant - horrors!! I had to add about 50ml.
That's like about very little, but I had to find something to do...

I can't believe that after 50+ track/race days,
and 106,000 kms, my car still doesn't use any oil.
Like nothing, nada, niks, zero - awesome!!

And after being nagged for a while, today my car got some cosmetic pampering from a professional detailer.
It looks awesome. Thanks Morne!!
And the way I feel right now, I'll be a lot faster on Sunday
