I bought a door stay from my local dealer. Can't recall the cost, but it was worth every penny and the 15-minute install time. Highly recommended.

Okay

continuing with my dumb question routine, I can't figure out how the socket comes out of the center console. Looks like there's a hinge on the bottom of a plastic connector that snaps around it but I can't figure how to pull or pry it loose without breaking something.

Have you checked out the DIY section for console removal How-To's?

I did this more than 4 years ago - sorry that I don't remember how.
