I was at the track a couple of weeks ago and was helping someone change out his brake pads. He had been using 70 lbs-ft for his lug nuts and they were SCARY loose. There's probably a fairly wide range of safe values, just don't go too low (or high).

I know bit also heard some people breaking stud torquing 89 ft lb.

Yeah I think the studs on these cars are just a weak point. I've been ok so far using 90 lbs-ft, but will probably change studs at the end of the year.

No issues using Muteki lugs to 85 ft lbs for a year and change here.
I ran the same lugs and torque values on my 05 Forester XT for 4 years/80k miles before switching to ARP hardware, because I figured it was time.

Extended muteki lugs snapped on two studs on my passenger front hub and then snapped one stud on the front driver hub. Replaced stock studs to APRs and hadn't had a issue since. Stock studs are garbage.

So the stock studs failed, you happened to be using Muteki lugs, and since switching to ARP you've been golden, right?
