Gas Pedal Assembly Spring

Has anyone tried opening up the gas pedal assembly on our cars? I'm curious to see if you could add a stiffer spring or additional spring to increase the tension on the pedal a little bit.

I'm sure we could all agree that the pedal feel is a little sub par, largely because it's drive by wire, but I also think they made the tension far too light. I find myself making shoe purchases around shoes that have a thin/soft enough sole so I can feel the pedal, and most of the time this doesn't make for a good walking around shoe.

No, I haven't and I would not recommend it.

"Drive-by-wire" spooks me enough, let alone opening it up and messen with it .....

Sorry, no help.

Why don't you just drive with your shoes off .......??

If only there was a place on the assembly that I could just attach a tension spring to, I wouldn't even consider opening up the plastic assembly. I don't want to add little mounting points or hooks for fear that they could somehow come off and get jammed in the assembly.

And I've tried driving barefoot and I must be in the minority that doesn't like it. Plus, wouldn't want to be in an accident with no shoes on.

Guess I'm SOL.

Yep, my 1.5 year old granddaughter (who is a Peppa Pig fan) highly recommends them ....... they work great on her scooter ......

On a serious note, when I had my miata, what I used for "driving shoes" was a pair of mostly worn out, thin soled, old, well broken in, leather (uppers and soles) slip on, dress shoes.

I kept a pair of more substantial shoes in the trunk for serious walking around.

mrs humfrz and I used to carry a pair of hiking boots in the trunk ...... but, as we got older, we decided that if we couldn't see it from a paved walk, a short distance from the parking lot, ....... it just didn't need to be seen .......

I've been scheming over a fix. Even bought a few different compression springs to place underneath the pedal right where my foot rests.

Are you tall? My struggle is with the angle. My knees are so bent that I have to pull up on my foot to maintain a legal cruise. I'd be happy to get a balance so I can just rest my foot on the pedal.

My other cars have been the same but I could always work with the cable stiction.

I'm not particularly tall, no. 5'11" - 6'0", but I have longish legs so I have a bit of a bend too. My main issue is that whenever I wear shoes with thicker padding like tennis shoes (and I mean actual tennis shoes):

I just can't feel the gas pedal worth a damn. So now i just stick to converse or similar old school style thin soled shoes. I figured if the pedal was a bit stiffer, the added feedback would be helpful.

Is it possible to relocate the whole assembly further back (away from the driver) .. ??

That's what I did with my Miata.

(I'd go out and take a look ...... but, I'm afraid I couldn't get back out from inside the footwell ..... )

Position is just right for heel-toe so I don't want to mess with it. It's just a bit annoying on long trips. Not a showstopper but I figured I'd chime in with a vote of support.

Oh, jest hook one end of a long bungee cord to the toe of your shoe and the other end on your belt ......

Besides a man of your age and stature should be in a Buick anyway ......
