I plan on doing this sometime this week or next. I plan on using a dual filament 1157 LED and setting up a three way switch to:

1) flashing for brakes
2) no flashing
3) flashing when RADAR/LADAR is detected (for when I'm in a convoy)

Along with a two way switch for steady on (and later for front fog lights too).

Getting the light to flash for RADAR/LADAR should not be difficult, because both my RADAR detector and LADAR jammers have a flashing LED that I could tap into. Getting it to flash with brakes will be a little more challenging because I don't know how to get it to strobe for a short time then cut off again. Though, maybe I could get away with it being a 4th brake light and using this: http://www.kahtec.com/products.htm (Intelligent Version). What do you guys think?

Also, should I use a PMOSFET or SSR to control the flashing?

I have mine setup to blink 3 times then stay on when brakes are applied.

This LED works perfect. Built in flasher. http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...sher/925/2276/

Finally getting around to adding mine to this. It was done slightly differently with an LED that has a built in flasher. Link to bulb is posted above.

This may not be for everyone but I think it's pretty cool. Gets drivers attention. If something is blinking in their face maybe they will look up from their text. lol

The LED with built in flasher made this a really clean and easy install. I did need to make a spacer to correctly position the LED in the center of the housing. Because of the built in flasher the bulb housing is fairly long. The spacer is .530".

spacer in place

LED in

If you look closely you can see the bulb position in the housing.

Will post video tomorrow.

Very nice. Can't wait for the video. Where did you get the spacer from? I like your setup. Will probably do it next weekend I'm off.

Sorry, I've been slacking on getting a video. I'll try to get one before the weekend.

If you have access to a lathe (or know someone who does) and a piece of plastic that spacer takes about 10 min to make. It doesn't need the spacer to fit, but it just bothers me when the light isn't exactly centered in the housing.

I just wish there was a way to tap into the factory harness (may or may not be there on US spec cars) so that we could have the rear fog dash indicator light be functional.

I still think the car should be pre-wired with some harness/relay for this light. I haven't had a chance to look into the fuse block yet. Anyone else want to use this light as a rear fog light and not just another parking light or brake light?

I was looking at these led bulbs, but I'm not sure if dual intensity or single intensity is desired.

7443 Dual
http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...led-tower/635/

7400 Single
http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...ower-bulb/848/

Here is the matching base.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...-sockets/1149/

Thanks,
Kev

Depends on what you want to use the light for. Dual intensity means that the light has two brightness's. If you want the light to act as a brake light you will need dual intensity. If you only want it to be a "fog" light you only need a single intensity bulb.

I'm honestly not sure how an LED brake light works. What happens when you step on the brakes? Does it turn simply give it higher voltage? Also what color (red or white) for the fourth?

A dual intensity LED will have 3 wires. Running light, brake light, and ground. You can wire all three to either tail light.

A red LED looks best.
