lol @ won't match the IDx... joking, right? This would be a high end mid-engined performance car. The IDx, if it was actually made, is just a new 240sx/Silvia/240z/FR-S.... an affordable, basic FR sports coupe.

240Z doesn't belong in that group! It was a dedicated cab-rearward 50/50 (mine was 49f/51r with fuel and driver) 2-seat sports car. No modern equivalent, unfortunately...

Part of the reason I want it to be lower HP is because it will then undoubtedly be lower cost. In the 35-55k range there's already LOTS of really good options for toys. That's a pretty saturated market in that range. I feel like they're making the same mistake they made with the S2k.
Honda really needs their version of a Miata for $5k less than a Miata, not 10k more like they did with the s2k. Unless their desire is to bring another car to market that totally bombs, which they've been doing a lot of lately.

Based on speculation and the comments from that guy on S2ki, I believe some variation of the S660 will be made with a 1.0L 4 cylinder turbo for markets outside of Japan, and that will be their basic, affordable Miata fighter. A 300-400hp smaller, lighter, cheaper mid-engined baby-NSX with a 4 cylinder turbo sounds like my own personal dream car, to be honest... and, although still expensive, it's a car I could actually afford in a few years, unlike the NSX, which I will likely never have the disposable cash to afford... or even if I did, I wouldn't be able to justify the cost. This will go up against the next generation Supra, the Corvette, etc... It will be the "bang for the buck" high performance sports car vs the "going all out" NSX supercar. |

Fair enough. I didn't actually know that about the weight distribution. I always kinda considered it a precursor to the modern Silvias.

Even the Baby-NSX should have an Acura badge in North America. Not everyone is "brand agnostic".. Hell, we've seen it here. People own BRZ's because it's "not a Scion", or changing their Scion badges to Toyota badges.
For a 50k sporty car, they will sell more with an Acura badge. Make the Miata fighter a Honda, make the more expensive toys Acuras, that's what the damn brand is for!

I'd be all over the base model... basically a Honda Boxster Turbo . Wouldn't touch the hybrid version though. And I would put Honda badges on mine
Also by the time this rumored car comes out, Boxster/Cayman will also be on turbocharged engines... |

50K? As reliable as Honda engines are, I'd rather have the Toyota powered Elise at that price range...
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad its coming out, but that seems a bit steep. |

@rice_classic @strat61caster Spot on! Lower hp = less money. Turbos add a lot of cost. I'd be okay with a standard 1.3L L series engine (Earthdreams one is preferable so we're starting with 120hp instead of 100) thrown into a widened and stretched S660 with extra crash structures slapped on, since it's not hard to overbore the engine and all with all that extra cash in the pocket. |
