Yup allocation is based on sales efficiency—how fast and how much you can sell.

And it isn't taking advantage of anyone. It is the same as what you do when you go into the dealership and try to get them to go down on the price. You want to pay as little as possible and they want you to pay as much as possible. It's called negotiations.

Besides the fact that there are far fewer cars for them to sell right now and yet they still have the same fixed costs, like mortgage on the property, electricity, personnel, etc.. If they charge everyone MSRP on every car when they aren't selling as many cars then they will soon be out of business.

The Laws of Supply and Demand dictates that they should raise their prices when there is more demand and less supply. It is what capitalism is.

I wouldn't pay that amount since I don't need a car right now. And honestly no one that needs a car is going to buy that car for 15,000 over. They are going to buy something else that is more practice, or they are just dumb.

I paid 1500 under MSRP. Am I an asshole that I got the dealership to give me a deal? Are they stupid to have given me a deal? No. It was good business, since I have bought 7 cars from them.

Maybe this won't be a popular post, but it needed to be said. I'm sure there are others on here thinking the same thing.
I think most, myself included, are making fun of the frittatas who would pay that much. One of the guys on the Facebook page who sells Subaru's said they just sold one with a $7k markup. I would never pay more than MSRP for a car, I don't even like paying MSRP.

Guys, fly to the middle of the country, buy one at MSRP and drive it back to the coasts.

I'm in Georgia too. I got my limited for MSRP. The same dealership I ordered from currently has an unreserved limited in transit for MSRP as well. I ordered from a dealer allocation late last month and it's set to arrive this month (although my car doesn't have a vin yet while the unreserved limited BRZ also heading there this month has one).

Nice! What dealer did you go with if you don’t mind me asking?

Troncalli Subaru up in Cummings. A little out of the way but they were the only dealer in the area that had an unreserved allocation coming in, and everyone else had estimated dates of January/February or later.

I was on the fence about white/gray but it was a no brainer to go with them because I didn't want to be without a car for that many months lol

I wanted to use Troncalli, but they didn’t offer me enough on my trade-in. I ended up going with Hughes. They are telling me the car is due in December.

Also, give Subaru of America a call if you previously owned one. 5min phone call might save you another $500.

It only works if you currently own a Subaru. I got a 750 coupon.

This.

I got one back in March and it’s valid for 1 year.

Seriously? They weren't supposed to. They stopped giving them unless you currently own. Good for you.

If anyone else on here used to own, I would at least try it.

See a lot of posts in this thread about "dealer wants to keep it as a show car, thats why they priced it so high".

Are the US dealers not required by Subie to keep at least one of each model on their lot at all times? In Canada, ours are. They won't sell you the last car of any model on their lot, that's just how it is.

No. Not in the US. There are a ton of dealers here that have zero or just a few total cars on the lot. My Subaru dealer had a legacy and a Forester and that was it q few months ago. They sell them before they come in too.
