I've had the Vortech V3 for 4 years now, although in those 4 years I've only clocked 10,000km on the car. No problems aside from a pulley squeaking sound when the engine is cold and goes away in a couple of minutes once the engine is warm.

Does anyone else go through belts like, 1 a year?
My belts start to squawk after what seems like just one summer. And I buy the Gates blue option, and those fuckers are like $50 a whap. I have almost all aftermarket pulleys, including the crank pulley, so I'm thinking they might be a bit deeper ribbed than the stock ones because it seems that the valleys of the ribs are the down to bare metal. I'm changing back to the OEM crank pulley as I rebuild this time, but just seeing what everyone else is experiencing.

Only downside is it looks like you spilt your cocaine stash in the engine compartment, but a light rinse or a blast of high pressure air will sort than out. I last had to put powder on about 6 months ago. My belt is 4+ years old, and seems to have settled down nicely now. No more squawks...

So you’re squawking your belts in couple of months! Haha I would like to see that mad driver in action. Anyway, Depending on the driving, belt could last very short or they normal life (that you already know), the problem is the additional mass and the change in direction during shifting. Especially downshifting, due to the position or the belt tensor, (so the belt loss tension during downshift and squawking begins)... So how in the world I could solve that problem? Well you will need a machine shop, spare pulley (for practice) and one way bearing. This I been using for the last 18 to 20 months with ridiculous good results. Hope this helps but if not please don’t hesitate to ask. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So which pulled to you replace? you have to MAKE one of these then, you're saying? But even during downshift, the belt is still moving in the same direction.
I guess I still don't fully understand.

I'm back on here after a few years and I see this old thread got brought back to life. I installed my kit almost 5 years ago and everything is still running solid. That being said I still haven't even hit 30,000 miles in my FR-S as I've had a second vehicle most of the time so it spends most of it's days in the garage. I'm tuned for both pump and E85 and haven't had any issues. I'll be drifting my FRS soon at events with the Vortech kit so we'll see how that goes.

The one way bearing will be use on the sc pulley and you are completely correct the belt should continue in the same direction but at the moment you try to decelerate the engine speed the freewheel action will save the belt of trying to change direction (or at least the rapid deceleration). Note, after reading my post I did explain it wrong, sorry. The problem is with up shifting and sudden drop on rpms. I buy a couple of pulleys with the desire diameter and almost completely don’t care about the in side (that side will be machined to accept the one way bearing). Also have to make some minor modifications to the sc shaft to accept and hold the one way bearing. The idea in simple terms is to spin the blower in one direction only (the direction of making boost, that is the same of the engine when accelerating) and if anything happens that try to reduce speed of the blower it will freely and gently decrease speed without hurting the belt until rpms match and boost resumes.
