As far as the turbo v SC debate, you'll always have people on both sides of the fence. I'd do what others have suggested and try to find a vehicle with a turbo/supercharger and ride in it. I had the advantage of riding in a Vortech V3 before I purchased my SBD and I am VERY happy that I did.

Tl;dr
SBD is a bangin' deal, Chris is literally ALWAYS there for any questions (or just ask the FB group), and you get to hear the prominent stututututu.
What was it about the experience with the Vortech did you not like?

It just felt like a typical 350/370z to me. No real "surge" or anything, just moreso a bigger motor. Don't get me wrong, it was still decently quick; but I much prefer the turbo surge, spool noises, and a more specific powerband to play with.

Thats definitely true. Superchargers dont give you that sudden surge of boost. It's super linear. My BRZ definetly feels like theres a heavier motor in there. I think a lot of it is also the parasitic load you get from Superchargers. Depending on the type of SC, The car can sometimes feel slower than stock at certain RPMS.

What I don't like with SBD is the need to remove/change the crash bar.

Another option to consider is treadstone with the efr turbo for 4300$

I've personally have an edelbrock supercharger and have ridden in a friends FRS with an SBD kit. Definitely a difference between the two. Lots of stututututuuu noises to enjoy and the lag is super fun. Trying not to be bias but I would still choose my S/C over the turbo just because of the constant power/tq and the reliability and overall fun of the kit. Just my .2 cents. + I'm making 280whp 220wtq safely with no issues for 20,000KM so far

I love the way that kit looks. V-Bands means you can pull the turbo off quickly for a belt change, Borg Warner EFR turbos are awesome! and the fact there is no cutting and comes with literally everything minus the tune is a plus, especially at that price.

Totally agree. I've had the SBD for a year and love it. 300whp 240ftlbs and I get the same gas mileage. Still have oem catback exhaust, drives like a stock car under boost. On the dyno I make more power at 4200rpm 175whp with turbo, then I did stock at 7000rpms. Basically I can shift at 4500rpms and out accelerate a stock BRZ.

I still cant get over the fact that SBD is a replica and requires the crash bar to be cut or replaced.

If you don't want to upgrade injectors and clutch, you might as well stick with SCs.

If you eventually want more power, I know some SC kits support higher boost pulleys (like JRSC), not sure about Edelbrock.

I think the decision really comes down to do SC vs Turbo first. Linear vs surge. Parasitic vs lag. etc etc

Edelbrock offers high boost pulleys.

Im still using my stock crash bar with an even larger intercooler on my SBD kit. Its very minimal modifications and everything fits excellent. I dont see what issues you think you'd run in to.

This is what kills it for me... I cannot see why you'd want to cut an integral part of the car for any kit!

That's what I thought initially until found out that the crash beam is there to protect you from minor accidents. Pretty much any crash under 20mph (correct me if I'm wrong). The reason why it's there is so you don't mess up your radiator and other more costly parts on a small bumper to bumper hits.

You can also replace the OEM crash beam with a drift bar which would give you the same or better protection and accommodate for virtually any kit. It also stays under the bumper just like the crash beam

I would say just spend the extra $150 on a drift bar and keep your original crash beam in case you want to go back to stock.

Once more, all of this info was given to me by far more experienced guys who have done their fair share of modding and I am still in my initial research step of the build. So If I got any part wrong, feel free to correct me
