If I make it I'll have 7 yrs on Sept 30. Everything changes. If you think I'm a pos at times on this forum you should have seen me before. It's a daily practice to stay sober but it's the most profound thing I can do as an alcoholic/addict. Join me and wear life as a loose garment

Congratulations!

After 20+ years of being clean and sober, the only downside I have found is that now when I do something stupid ...... I don't have any excuse ....

I’ve been struggling with binge drinking 1-2 times a week for about 10 years…I’m only 4 days without it and it’s all good until I get bad cravings about 6-7 days sober. I notice once I get about two weeks I almost forget about it…until a trigger - bleh. It’s crazy if you’ve never had a booze craving. It’s like you’re really really hungry and anxious.

I’ve never seen this thread before…maybe a sign…sober date: 02/24/2022…

Hey thanks for making a post and sharing some details about your situation and history, I'm sure that wasn't easy to type.

You're right, it's hard to adequately describe what a craving for alcohol feels like to those who aren't afflicted by excessive consumption and alcoholic tendencies.

If you've decided you are ready to quit, then I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to PM me any time if you ever need/want someone to talk to about it. I'm always happy to talk about not drinking/quitting alcohol.

Welcome to "admitting you have a problem" - that is the toughest part. Now, what to do about it.

I recommend that you attend a rehab clinic. Yep, at least 21 days and nights worth of treatment. Then follow up with a membership in AA.

That has worked for me over the past 20+ years.

One day at a time.
