Ahh good news - I contacted them today! They actually aren't far from where I live... Seems like this place is better to work with.

Quick piece of our convo:

When would a manual FR-S be available to test drive?

--- salesman ---
I have an automatic here for you to test drive. All you need to do is come in ready to drive one! I can order a manual. It usually takes a month from when you leave me a deposit.

Oh yes & totally not disowning the auto. I just prefer the manual, for my preference. Who knows maybe that will all change after the test drive

I totally wasn't planning on an auto (and this is actually the first auto I've ever owned). I was really suprised.

Also on a side note, there is also a dark grey frs that is manual but it is used, check Davis Hyundai in Ewing, NJ on Olden Ave.

In my opinion, the test drive shinanigans may be some ageist junk.

First off, I am 23 with a stable job and enough income to finance an FR-S or any sub $45K car. On my initial pass through a few dealers I walked in wearing normal clothes (shorts, polo and flip flops) and hardly anyone gave me the time of day. The next time around I came straight from work in a suit and the reception was much warmer.

As a side note, I found Honda and Mazda dealers to be the easiest to deal with and test drive cars without a hard sales pitch. I went with Scion since it's the car I wanted, but I was not impressed with most Bay Area Scion dealers.

They don't have a model that practically sells itself now, so yes they probably need to do more "selling" at this time. Times are tough and everybody needs to eat. I sold Miatas in '90 and it gained similar reception to the twins.

You make a valid point. I should note I was looking at S2000' and Mazdaspeed Miatas. Nevertheless, I bought my car with 17 miles on it and I would be comfortable with anything under 100.

Nissan let me take the 370Z "around the block". Lost a potential customer instantly with that.

yes the "slush box" is a terrific tranny, especially if others occasionally drive the car! it's fun in sport mode "flickin' the "stick"

How would they know you're serious then? Me thinks that's where the $$$ comes in...otherwise it would go down like this...

Salesman: Are you a serious buyer?
Customer: Umm...yeah!

I've sold so much crap on CL, ebay, want ads to know that no one, NO ONE is a serious buyer until they are standing in front of you and you see the money...
