Just get those springs at home depot and do it yourself!

I rechecked my VIN and still nothing even though it was built in 2012.

Has anyone with a BRZ put their VIN in and had recall come up?? (I just see the Toyota Frs owners reporting a hit)

The NHTSA and Subaru sites are showing an error code when I enter my VIN. The last digits are 601154.

Is my car in range?

Thanks. Use did clutch/TOB update...

How did they discover this though btw? I guess I'd like to know how likely it would be that there is actually an issue w/ springs. Like, was this tested and/or confirmed under normal driving conditions or was someone ripping up the 'ring while it happened?

I only read the first 6 or 7 pages of this thread.
They discovered this because valve springs broke..... Do you really think that they would spend hundreds of millions of dollars and take a hit to their reputation if there wasn't a problem? I seriously doubt that anybody was "ripping up the ring" when the failure occurred. Remember that boring vehicles like the impreza, crosstrek, etc. are being recalled as well and most drivers of those vehicles aren't exactly pushing the engine very hard. Now does this mean that it's a guarantee that your valve springs will break if you don't have the recall performed? No. Will you wish that you had it done if your engine does fail? Yes.

Subaru has a history of failing parts. The only reason the BRZ/86 is as reliable as it is, is because Toyota was involved.

Nothing new here but the news has spread to mainstream media now. Some of the comments from Subaru back up the calculations by some here of just how small the chance of failure is:

All things recall aside, some people in this thread are astounding, one recall and y'all retreat into your salt forts :lol

Butthurt about it? Just don't go, recalls aren't forced on the end user.

Things will get a bit salty when you go to sell it without getting recalls handled?

When I sell it?

You can pry it from my cold dead hands. I'll either roll the dice or replace them myself. 1/1000? A bajillion other things could go wrong before it drops a valve.

Here's where my habit of driving a car until it falls apart comes into play. By the time I sell or trade a car, even if not having a recall done cut the price in half I might lose $250.

The point of recalls is they are free, even if you aren't the first owner. If you've got a high mileage car it's probably ok to assume if the spring was going to fail, it would have by now, if the new owner really cares about it, he can have it done for free.

This is what worries me. Is it out of the question to bring an FRS to a Subaru dealer for this recall?

Still getting error messages on NHTSA and Subaru websites when checking VIN - hafta just wait until the dust settles and it goes through the system I guess. In the meantime I'm headin' out on a fun drive
