I would try to figure out if is has a nut on the other side first if you can. If it threads into the block and has a nut on the other side you could create a new issue.

I might try covering the openings with tape or rags and trying to get the galling from the filter off the threads in place. If you took a sharp awl or similar tool to to the threads and tried of pry off the metal from the filter you may succeed.

I don't think you have stripped threads on the engine part, there is some material from the filter stuck to it.

Not sure about this engine but most unions come out with a big ass allen head bit. I'd be willing to bet it's not stripped though. That's very tough steel and it would eat a cheap filters threads before giving way.

What I find interested is the location of the stripping - in the middle of the threads. Could over tightening have caused this?

Which FRAM filter did you use? I dont think a correct filter size would be able to do that much damage. Whoever installed it must've used force and didnt lube the filter prior to installing it.

That could be a possibility, but if the threads are stipped then there is no way the adapter would be able to seat properly and even if it did, there is a possibility oil could leak and cause even more damage. No point in causing more harm if you could fix the culprit.

Yep agreed I definitely hand tightened the filter when putting it on but I'm pretty sure the removal process caused this - the filter didn't immediately break free after the initial torque, it took about a full rotation of intense torquing before the filter broke lose and twisted freely. That full rotation was me stripping the union

15018AA050 can be had for less than $5 online. Buy a couple oil filters and crush washers with it while you're there.
