You have zero experience with these tires, but you're ready to critique the awesomeness of my driving?! FWIW, I'm not that great a driver and fairly inconsistent usually, but if anything I tend to overdrive the fizook out of the car, to a fault. I only got two events out of my first set last year, actually bought 3 sets last year for 7 events, and I was also sometimes running NT01s :O In ANY case, what does "a properly fast driver" have to do with the context of this thread? I stated my experience with these tires, which is more than you can do as you've never driven on them Last edited by ZDan; 08-02-2019 at 12:06 PM. |

If you're getting 7 good laps, you're under driving. The other potential is you're over driving so badly that they're always over heated and never at full potential. I wasn't trying to attack you (despite you taking it that way), but data doesn't lie, and I'll take a much larger sample set over your single reference. My opinion is far from isolated too... they aren't called one lap wonders for no reason.

Anyway for 90% of the cases where someone lacking experience is asking for info, it is most likely not pertinent if tires lose a few tenths after 3 or four laps in the hands of an expert driver. Last edited by ZDan; 08-02-2019 at 12:57 PM. |

And in those cases where they don't have the experience to extract every tenth out of the tires, and aren't competing, there are much better tire options (which was my original statement). More consistent, last longer overall, last for longer sessions, cheaper, etc.

If you happen upon it, I'm interested... Not a big deal but I am curious as to what kind of lap time falloff others may be seeing. FWIW I was on tires with ~2mm tread depth left, less tread squirm...

I'll see what I can dig up, I can share the live timing url but that doesn't tell you what tires people are on, and looking that up is a completely separate db/system. Here's one guy that I believe was on RE71R's for this event, and is a really quick/consistent driver. Look at the practice laps, boxed by time (practice is run as one session all monring, but you'll see his actual runs are ~1 hour apart) http://livetiming.time-attack.ca/eve...tor/68/details They're a great choice, there's some other good ones too especially if not competing.

i will keep my mouth zipped until the next track day with my alignment ready, and show the result. most driver are using re71r for people around from newbie to advance one driver is using r888r or r888 who is driving r35 gtr however, re71r is cheaper in my area. so far as know, no matter wut u do. the re71r only hold 2 track day before u find out it is pointless to keep lapping with them 4-5 section 20-25mins lapping on each track day no matter wut, it is all come down to the track layout. so here is the vimc track a lot of u turn with off camber and hard braking and here is video of the last section on the tire i had showed in the post [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZVoOEvoeLk&t=131s[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkFKC8DYdrw&t=2s[/ame] from start to end 2 videos in my opinion, the re71r will get into working temperature very fast like 1-2 laps. the grip keeps linear until u cool it down, and then u will notice the grip a bit less compare before. something like decreasing steps anyway will show the result after i done the next trackday

one of my friends use 215 45 17 re71r on stock brz, no racing line no heel toe. just push the tire to the limit. like a rally driver right on the limit and careless he is 3 seconds faster than me but he had way more seat time compare to me i only had 1 set of re71r last year he had 6 set now i think. he knows the limit of the re71r my goal is keep up with him still try to find the limit of the tire at braking into the corner

I'd suggest RS4's for your next tires instead of RE71R's, they're a much better lapping tire than RE71R's. They'll last you a lot longer, and should be cheaper (they are here).

I don't think you get what you actually need... if you're not already driving to the full potential of the car and setup then you need seat time, not faster tires. Faster tires will give you a tiny plateau of being faster, but if you're actually trying to be a faster driver that's not the best path. If you're not logging data and analyzing it to see where you're losing time, then you're also leaving a TON of time on the table. RE71R's are actually quicker than some of the older 100tw tires, RA1's, R888R's, NT01's, etc as well.
