Looks good to me, should give you no issues

You could run a 18x9.5 square setup with +35 or even +38, however it is super tight, and also pokes alot in the front. I would not advice it, but it works. Check out this thread for example http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11222

You're welcome, I've spent alot of time with this when choosing my setup and had about the same questions, so why not pass on the stuff I learned to my fellow Twin-owners.

18x8 is perfect for 225, and on a 18x9 I would go for 245. Those are also more common sizes and shoud be cheaper than a 255 for example. If you need help with tire flank size just let me know.

Square is pretty much possible in all sizes, I myself have a 18x8.75 +35 with 245 tires all around, with 1" drop on springs, I would not call it a skinny setup.
Difference from Square to staggered, appart from the obvious convenience things like being able to use the same tires front and rear and swap them if you need, depends a bit on your overall setup, and what offset you use. Generally, if you have a wider ...gauge... (not sure if that is the proper english word. That wide between the wheels) the car will be more stable at higher speeds, but looses agility in cornering. But overall, you dont really notice the difference that much unless driving on the limit
Thank you so much Killer Bee. After reading your great lecture, looks like the 18x8 (+48) / 225 & 18x9 (+52) / 245 will be my final decision.

After all, the car is just an 1" drop on stock struts and it's practically for daily drive usage. I just want some nice set of wheels/tires without having to worry about rubbing though a staggered set up may cause the tire to wear out faster over a square set up. If I ever decide to track the car or go with a bigger/wider wheels then I'll consider coilovers w/ camber adjustments and indeed do square.

Could anyone give me some advice on fitment for the following setup on stock suspension, and also a what-if on a 1" spring drop?

front: 18x9 +35 - 225x40x18

rear: 18x9 +20 - 225x40x18

Fitment Question

Hey what's going on guys? I'm sitting on stock suspension atm but am getting Tein Street Basis Coilovers in the near future. I'm looking at doing a squared setup with 18x9.5+35. And was wondering which tires would be best suited to get a properly fitted look (not into the stretch look) and not rub on OEM height. 245/40/18 or 245/35/18. Thanks in advance for your help!

Works both, however will poke about 2-3mm (front) / 10mm (rear) on stock suspension, does not look that good unless lowered in my opinion. I would go for +35 front and rear.
Looks way better when lowered 1", is about flush then (rear +20 may poke a bit depending on camber).

235/45/17 is +2.9% off in diameter from factory setup
245/45/17 is +4.3% off in diameter from factory setup
235/40/17 is -0.9% off in diameter from factory setup
245/40/17 is +0.4% off in diameter from factory setup

Your goal is to be as close to the factroy diameter. However the 7" wide stock wheels are not ideal to host 235 or even 245 wide tires... If you have to choose one of them, I'd rather take 235/40/17

My suggestion however would be 225/45/17 (+1.4%) on the stock 7" wheels. If you want 245 tires, I would at least go for a 8" wide wheel

245/35/18 every time! Almost same diameter as stock wheels, so speedo and hight will remain like with the factory wheels.

Hi, i really want to buy some Enkei NT03+M's, 18x9.5 +40 all around in 225x40x18 tyres.
However, I'm worried about fitment and rubbing and was wondering if this could work. I'm lowered 1 inch on STI springs only.

Thats probably going to rub in the front (inner struits)

Thightest I've seen was a 18x9.5 +38, and that was very very tight already. Your's is another 2mm more inside.

Also, 225 on 9.5" wide wheels is generating alot of strecht, I would not advise to do this (you can, its just my opinion that you should not)

Hey guys quick couple questions for you. So I will be swapping my stock wheels out for a 17x9 (still debating) preferably the RPF1s if money allows. I am a little confused when it comes to the tire selections on these small cars. I am really looking for function over looks but would enjoy the idea of a wider tire than stock. I am not much for the stretched look, so what would be my best options? Is the 225/45/17 going to be my best bet or could I get away with something wider. The reason I want to stick to 17s is due to the weight for autocross and retaining the sporty driving. Would going to an 18 be that big of a difference in the handling? I think 17s suite me personally better as the car is daily driven and not sure I wanna cough up money for low profile 18s every few months. Would I be better off with a 17x8 and just have a custom set made with that 35 offset (clear future BBK)? The car will be dropped in the near future on the TRD springs until I can afford a nice pair of coilovers. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have scoured the threads only to be left more confused then when I started.

After looking some more at the calculator would 245/40/17 be a better choice?

soo... to give you a full recommondation, you have to talk about all the mods.

I'm missing the offset of the 17x9 wheels, you noticed something +35 for a 17x8, so I guess you have the same on the 17x9. This will stick out in the front a bit, specially when not lowered. Nothing drastically, but so you know.
Now my answer is only covering your tire/wheel " question, not fitting, so if you give me your full fitting plans I can comment on that aswell.

Generally, on a 9" wide wheel I would suggest 245 tires. Either 245/40/17 if on 17" wheels, or 245/35/18 if on 18" wheels. This will be about "flush" with the wheel. 225 will be slighly stretched.

The difference between an 17" and 18" is pretty small. If you're not a professional driver, you will neither notice a difference, nor improve your time on a track depending on this choice.

While they are lighter in theory, practically if you compare the same wheel in 17 and 18" its very little, and nothing you notice while driving.
However, if you buy a super lightweight wheel in 17", and compare it to a shitty heavy weight 18" wheel, yes, it makes a difference, and I guess this is mostly where the "only 17" for track" voices come from.

Tirewise, it is only 5% less tireflank, so its neither that much more expensive, nor is it that "low profile". We are talking about an about 10cm high tireflank on an 17" tire, or 8.5cm on an 18" tire, so its not that big of a deal.

17" or 18" choice should be by what you like more from an optical point of view. Performance wise its sooooo little you will only notice it if you drive professional on a racetrack, and price wise its also not that big of a difference.

Hope this helps a bit, cheers
