Well, it turns out I'm not going to go through the trouble of hardwiring my Escort. The package with the kit came today, but when I went searching for the fuse panel (which I never found) I found a 12v power plug hiding at the back of the glove box! I'm going to use the stock power cord for now and return the hardwire kit to Amazon. Pics in my journal.
Now after re-reading the OP I should have known there was a power source in the glove box!!! |

I just like the idea of having an extra power outlet available in case I need it. |

thank you man. I will order it and try. I just got the Escort 8500 X50 last weekend, and really don't like the wire hanging in the center between the seats. @ATL BRZ are you able to close the glove box after the direct cord is installed into the 12V outlet?

Why wouldn't you just hard wire it ? use the smart cord. It's a very simple task... the smart cord comes with T taps and you can tap into the 12v in the center console. Wiring thru the headliner or front dash is simple as you just need to stuff it in there.

I've run a hardwired smart cord from fuse box snaked up a pillar and over and the 12v plug from valentine 1 in glove box outlet snaked up and over.
Both were fantastic. |

I know this was a post from July but the guy I bought my STI from (years ago) was in VA and he had his V1 under a hat (mounted in foam) sitting at the bottom of the rear windshield. He had the power cable running all the way from the 12v cig lighter in the front. He also had pins holding the hat down.
Said he had a state trooper stop him once and search his car (because he slammed on his brakes the trooper said he had probably cause to search for a detector) and never found it. I guess he unplugged it and pocketed the 12v plug before the trooper made it to his window. As far as the rest of the thread goes: I run a blend mount with invisicord wired into my autodim mirror. No Issues. Same V1 from the above story

This is old, but for anyone else who is struggling to find a CLA adapter to a RJ11 cable. You can always use the original radar power cable plugged in the glove > RJ11 coupler > long phone cable > radar.
