Check engine light

Hi y’all

I bought an 86 in November of last year and the check engine light came on about a month ago.

Took it to the dealership and they first told me that it’s a fuel issue I have to use premium which I was using since I bought it. The light came back on and then they replaced the injectors. Well the light came back on again and Toyota is stumped. They were going to replace the ECU but then they said that would not fix the problem. They are thinking maybe it’s the Borla exhaust which I doubt that’s what it is cuz I had that exhaust on my 2015 FRS that I had before this 86.

The car runs great it’s just that damn CEL. So what y’all think? Any idea on what could be the issue? Maybe someone else here has had this problem. Please help me

Thanks
Albert

Welcome to the forum ........

Yep, knowing the code(s) would help.

Bubba says to just place a piece of black electrical tape over the CEL symbol.

P219A - Bank 1 Air/Fuel Ratio Imbalance
Leaking or contaminated fuel injectors
Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
Leaking evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve
Exhaust or intake air system leaks
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system
Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is leaking or the valve is stuck open
Ignition system
Incorrectly seated engine oil dipstick, tube or oil fill cap

P1604 Startability Malfunction
Low Battery charge
Starting system
Low quality fuel
Clogged Fuel filter
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM

Nothing on P119F

Best guess is that it indeed fuel related.

A quick search brings up numerous threads on this site with P219A and P119F. Some of them seem to be dead ends, but maybe something in there will put you on the right track:

Ok. They already replaced the injectors and they had already placed the order for the ECU until Toyota said that they already tried to do that with another car with the same problem and they determined that replacing the ECU won’t fix it.

Was the exhaust the only thing changed?

The exhaust came with the car when I bought it. Only thing that’s been replaced relating to the CEL were the injectors.

That you know of.

Unless I'm misreading, you bought it used, correct? Most of the posts about those codes are from people who have modified the car with intake parts or a tune. I'd almost be willing to bet money the prior owner modded that car and took it back to stock before it got to you.

Are you sure you don't have a tune on it now? Did the dealer try flashing it back to the stock tune?

I bought it brand new. It only had 9 miles when I took delivery of it. So no it hasn’t been modded. The Borla exhaust came from Toyota.

No intake or anything else then just the exhaust?

P119E,P119F,P219A BANK 1 AIR-FUEL RATIO IMBALANCE FOR PORT INJECTION

Kinda looks like 1 or more bank 1 injectors is taking a dump. That might cause the startability problem too. The tech should be able to look at the data from when the code was thrown and determine of it's the DI or PI injectors. @Ultramaroon you can look at that info can't you? You can tell stuff like fuel pressure, RPM etc at the time when a code was thrown?
