Gen1 looks so much better IMO. Gen2 styling is a bit too bulbous for me.

The added torque sounds like it will be nice on paper but will have to wait and see how it drives though. May make it less engaging since you can be a bit more "lazy" about shifting.

I wonder if the trans will be strengthened to accommodate the added torque?

The release materials all say the tranny was beefed up a bit so that should be fine.

Curious if they went strong enough to make it attractive to maintain in a LS swap application. I know some guys are using the CD009. Not that I'm gonna switch back from my Tremec, but it could make future swaps a little more affordable

Eh I just sold my Camaro for more than I bought it for new 2 years ago. Entire transaction from picking up the guy at the airport to him driving away was 45 minutes, 30 of which was driving to the car...

Buying a car tomorrow that I expect to take 3 minutes plus a trip to a brewery for lunch.

Not all deals are painful! Just the ones that involve a dealership finance team lol

Even dealership finance teams don't have to be. Mind you my wife is a dealership finance manager (RVs) so I let her do the talking. She goes in and they both throw a bunch of things back and forth in some foreign language while I just sit and smile like I have a clue what is going on. She gets us some spectacular deals. Anybody can do it though if they just do some homework before going in.

The most painful has to be with the finance guy whos trying to sell you the extended warranty, extra care protection and crap because thats where the dealerships make some of the money.

When i picked up my 86, the finance guy was very...i wouldnt say pushy...but really trying hard to sell me the extended warranty.

I have purchased them twice in the past (the first time...was really just the first time buying a car, the second time had a money back gaurantee of like 75% of the cost of the warranty if i ended up never using it at the end of the finance term..so it seemed like a good idea at the time)

The first time i never ended up using it, and had the car for a good 9 years so the factory and the extended warranty both just expired.
The second time i never ended up using it, nor did i get the money back cuz i had traded it in the middle of the finance term.

So yeah i was just going nope, nope nope, and the finance guy was pretty stunned that i would decline his "great offers" and whatever.

Eventually he let up and we signed the agreement to not include the warranty but left it on the table that i could call him in the next few days if i changed my mind. I never did that. I probably could have been a bit more stern on the nope but i did want to hear what benefits of having the extended warranty were (ie including 6 free services or something...but that ends up just being a gimmick as it the cost is just frontloaded all at once as opposed to being paid 6 times separately)

That is where they make most of their money. Selling the car doesn't pay worth shit.

Of course they push. That is their job and how they feed their family. Do you half ass your job? If you do would you if your paid was all based on commission? They can push without being obnoxious though.

He was not "stunned" that you didn't take his offer no matter how much he acted (or you interpreted his actions) like he was. To you it was a one off thing to him it is what he does many times a day, every single day. He probably scores on about 20% of the people he try's to sell to. He doesn't expect you to take the things he expects you NOT too. The same applies to every joker walking into a dealership with their "tricks" and "bargaining abilities". The sales team sees all these "trick" hundreds of times a week. There is not one single thing that you are getting out of them that you wouldn't have during a straight deal. Even the old "I am walking out. Look at me I am leaving" thing means nothing to them if they didn't already have a number in mind. They just play the games so the customer feels they won something.

My best options is saying NO to most everything they propose after the initial deal !
My dealer even had me sign as to having declined the extended warranty.
Had never seen this ploy in 44 years of buying new cars….
But then this was my first non Honda.

So what will really happen to the old gens once we see the new “better” ones out there…

I know that I will still be putting gas in mine for some time to come.

If you no longer own the vehicle and it was still in the warranty period you are entitled to a prorated refund (at least in the US). This includes GAP insurance.

So Im driving around and i realized....my first gen hasnt imploded yet.

I thought the announcement of the second gen would at least cause something to spontaneously break or loosen or make noise.

Sounds like D-day might be sometime in august so...hopefully i get my money's worth by then.

I understand being interested in hearing views on the implications of a new generation. I imagine it will be most similar to the 240sx and Silvia generations, other than maybe the easy engine swaps, but fingers crossed..

Some people enjoy the handling of the s14 over the s13 but nobody hates the s13. Back when these were plenty people would buy based on some driving feel preferences, but mostly exterior and interior preference, availability and cost of a clean one.

So Gen 1 always will be awesome, same for Gen 2, and overall im just grateful we will have both!
