If you need power buy another car. This is a feel car for twisties and mountain roads. Go kart feel with low power so you can ring it out and hit high rpms without hitting 3 digit speeds on local roads. Having both a WRX and a BRZ, they are both great, but the WRX has a completely different feel. If you are a person who is just too used to torque, this maynot be the car for you. Rather than spend 20k on boosting, buy a used WRX or STI and a used Twin for the same money.

I am one of those who put a turbo on my 86 and regret it. It's because with the turbo installed, I'm forced to full send it in front of the kids for that clout. Other times I have to hear my bov sound after a long day in the office as it's my daily so it reduces my mpg which decreases money in my wallet to fill up.

Thanks. I have a 118 mile round trip commute. 3-4 times a week. I sometimes want to put a supercharger on it, because race car. Then I read your post and I am reminded the car is great as it is with header and tune for a DD.

When I bought my 14 FRS I didn't even know the car existed. I saw it in the dealership while getting my car serviced next door. I bought the very first one I ever set eyes on in print, online or real life.
AFTER I bought it I came home and started research. I read article after article about how slow it was and how it was impossible to even merge onto traffic because the torque dip was so bad. I then found this forum and went through the whole (much smaller then) FI section and planned out the upgrades I was going to have to get to make it even basically drivable. It was almost 50% of what I paid for the car.
Then I took delivery and actually got some time behind the wheel. It didn't take long to figure out that most of the whiners (for a DDcar) obviously just didn't have a clue on how to drive it or were somehow tricked into buying it when what they really wanted was a Mustang or Camaro.
I saved a pile of money and drove it for 150,000 trouble free miles.

I got mine in 2012, in late 2018 I decommissioned it and converted it into a race car. My daily is a 2019 Ford Ranger which I love but I would love to own another FRS/BRZ as street car again. If it wasn't for the fact that I have a toddler, I think I would have replaced the wife's car with a 86 already.

I think people are looking sometimes more into drag racing and ignore the rest of the setup. I have tons of fun when I am driving at the mountains and I don't think boost is really necessary in such an environment.

I have been boosted for only a month or so and I love every minute of it. The only thing I miss is wringing out the car without worry when I was NA. I didn't feel like the car was trash or slow without boost (I had a headers+tune) I just got a really good deal on a used greddy kit so I just checked something off my bucketlist.

Enjoy it, that’s what these things are for. No hate for boost here, I just the don’t want to take the hit in cost and reliability for my DD. I would rather put the money into making my WRX even faster or another car or another hobby,

I rode in a bolt on tune wrx that makes 300whp and it was a blast as well, but i just preferred to make my 86 faster because it's rwd and a great handling coupe. We also have significantly less options at our country at the price point of the twins.

Or a shorter final drive ratio. I have a 4.3 FD and it works pretty good. It made the engine quite livelier. Only disadvantage I can find is the more noise in highway and the higher consumption.
