rattle and vibration when braking?

hello there,

folks, i have a problem that have been plaguing me since 1500 km ago, that is :

when braking at high speed (more than 100 km/h) there will be a continuous rattle/vibration coming from front (right) end. it felt directly at steering wheel and brake pedal.

the rattle/vibration will be greater if the speed is more/braking stronger... it will come up if i brake at more than half pedal travel... apparently it won't come out if i brake the pedal just a tiny bit.

it happens first when it was raining, i have had my brake cleaned twice at 6000 km and 12000 km (odometer now 13000 km), and alse get the brake setup checked (disc surface, pad surface, caliper cleaning, etc) and also the front tires are OK.. no bump.. surface is OK..

when this vibration happen, the brake stopping power is not fading, no changing direction whatsoever.. handling is stll there.. its just there is this vibration and it is annoying made me a bit scared.. especially recently this happened at much slower speed, more than 70 km/h and brake it will keep vibrating until i reach 60 km/h and below...

the dealer now decided to change the front strut, both left and right (waiting for the part now) because they found abnormalities at the right front strut, saying something is loose at the inner part...

i have tried to re-align the wheels and it is still there... oh yes my setup is all standard, no mods, except a scorpion ex and beatsonic antenna..

any kind of info would help me.. thanks folks!

Well, dokterdewe, ......that sounds like it could be a warped front brake rotor.

@humfrz is right... you have a front rotor with excessive run-out. a new pair will remedy the problem. Toyota probably won't warranty brake parts, so you may be on your own for this one...

the reaplacement front strut has come.. if this didn't change anything then i will ask for a new disc.. it is still under warranty.. if not then i'll just change to aftermarket one.. maybe dixcel..

When you had "all the brakes and rotors changed" did they change the brake pads and calipers?

Time to consider things like worn rod end, ball joint, or even a torn/worn control arm bushing. I hope the dealer has inspected the tire, wheel, and hub.

I'd also take a look at the rotors to see if the bedding layer is wearing off. The wife's Camry will judder braking from speed (actually all the time but most noticeably from higher speeds) if it gets granny driven around town for a long time. The rotor develops a blotchy look to it were the transfer layer is wearing off. 10 minutes on an empty back road, half a dozen threshold stops from 70 to 10 to bed the pads back in and all's good. It stinks for a while, but stops very well (until it doesn't again).

Not just down here. It's like an Italian tune up, but for brakes.
