In 6 days and 19 hrs we will know about the new brz. Then we can argue about it. I'm relieved that its actually coming to fruition. Kinda brings a sense of normalcy

I can't wait for the first one bought by someone who has disposable income an just starts seeing what swaps and what doesn't.

I know this is purely academic, but still good to understand. Thanks.
I think you will find that the claim of 12 HP may be a bit optimistic. The key words there are "We make". I am not a great believer in dyno readings from manufacturers. It may or may not meet emissions but I strongly doubt that their materials and build methods will lend themselves to mass production at anything near the price point targeted for the car. Everything that "they should be able to easily do" comes at a cost no matter how "easy" it is.
As Lant said there are compromises that must be made or it would be up in supercar prices and nobody would own one no matter how great it would be.

The gain of 12 hp is nice but not that important. So it drops the car’s 0-60 time from 6.3 to 6.2 seconds. Big deal. What caught my eye was how it removed the torque dip around 4,000 rpm. Eliminating that could be felt in everyday driving.

Subaru incurs a cost to make their current exhaust header. If it cost slightly more to make it as efficient as this aftermarket header, it would seem like money well spent to me. The question is why didn’t Subaru do this. The subject of exhaust gas scavenging is not that complicated. I’m sure Subaru’s engineers are smart enough to figure this out. If this header design makes such a large improvement to the shape of the torque curve, why isn’t it stock? One thought is the catalytic converter may be located too far downstream to heat quickly and control emissions on a cold engine. Regardless, I anxiously await the specs on this new engine to see of Subaru improved the shape of this torque curve compared to the 2.0’s curve.

We still don't know the other impacts the aftermarket had. The reduction in dip (if accurate) obviously comes at a cost of something else. What the aftermarket can do has no bearing on what the manufacturer can. As you said the engineers that designed the car are not dumb and if they could eliminate the dip and meet all their other requirements they would. All in all they are stuck with compromises that the aftermarket is not hobbled by.

but its right there, in a teaser video, at a wierd angle, that the wheel is at a wierd angle!

No turn signals on the mirrors They kept the fender bumps which is nice but they also kept the channel in the roof that I was hoping would go away.

That image is spliced together. Its the 2018 BRZ roof and lower bumper.
