I thought I had read that Subaru was building both cars. Does Toyota’s production cut affect GR86 output?

Probably not, but their dealers probably just think it applies to everything as the GR86 and Supra are likely not affected at the same scale.

Subaru is definitely building both cars at the same plant in Japan as all of the former BRZ/86. I think what he was saying for the GR86, there could be delays because of the Toyota specific parts. There are small differences between the 2. I would imagine that with these differences, Subaru requires Toyota to bring their own parts to the table.

I hadn't thought about it but that may be why Toyota has not announced when the GR86 will start taking pre-orders.

Just ordered BRZ Limited in Magnetite Gray. Estimated delivery late Jan, 2022. Right when the snow really starts here...

Ordered my BRZ Premium in Crystal Black Silica on 8/29. Estimated delivery is, "last week of December 2021." Thrilled to finally own one of these after years of admiration!

I believe they had a pause in August too at Gunma. WRX/BRZ/86 are built at Gunma only with a few other models: https://www.subaru.co.jp/en/outline/office.html

People who recently ordered had their dates moved up October in some cases, so a 4 day delay doesn't seem terrible.

The dealer I'm planning to reserve with tomorrow has a $500 (refundable) "reservation fee." Is the expectation that this goes towards the sale price of the car or no? I've been hearing about these $500-$1000 deposits but I've never ordered a car from the factory so I don't know what the standard is...

The way my dealer described it was that it would go towards the car. If I test drive it and and decide I don’t like it, I get the $500 back.

That being said, he never actually charged my card for the $500, but still confirmed my order is in soooo

My dealer did the same, they drew up a receipt for me and said the $500 will go towards the car if I decide to buy it, and the receipt reflects that.

WR Blue Limited with 6MT, dealer said expected to be here November.

WRB limited manual, November.

Dealer tried to slip in 2k of "value adds". I asked what the 2k$ value adds line item was and she listed off a bunch of stuff including, I shit you not, nitrogen in the tires. Nitrogen, like 70% of the air.

I had to repeat several times that I literally did not want any of that stuff to get it removed.

WRB Limited, all STI aero and went pretty ham on the accessories:
floor liners, cargo tray, dome light, footwell illumination, homelink, and of course _sunshade_.
I asked for MSRP and got it, $500 deposit and so far the dealer hasn't tried to tack on any add-ons for for me.

Delivery estimate was November, which I was surprised by; the salesperson I talked to said there had only been four orders before me, and only sold two new BRZs in his 2 (?) years of working there. I think my local dealer was already saying December delivery about a month ago, so I'm glad I went a bit out of my way to find another dealer.

Since we don't have a build page here in the US, here is the Japanese version. You need to turn on translation:
