Honda's have a failsafe as well. There is an RFID tag in the key fob. If you wave it directly in front of the Push Start button it will start the car even if you take the battery out of the key fob (RFID tags are passive and receive their energy from the reader).

Unfortunately the failsafe needs a failsafe when your key fob has been short circuited by floating around in diet coke for a few minutes and you not noticing it.

Ahh. I remember helping a friend build some computers for his father's sheet metal shop with a two year old lurking about. He was helping us clean up and threw my car keys into one of the boxes we were throwing away. I didn't notice until a couple of hours after we took all of the boxes to the dumpster, so no room for me to talk on that one.

Our cars have this too.

Also, I had no problem shutting my engine off while driving. Now if only it wasn’t right next to the AC Auto button and about the same size.

If you press the Start/Stop button three times in quick succession the engine will stop even while you're still rolling.

Oh yes a screwdriver across the solenoid has a far better feel.

You have EXACTLY the same control of the starter with a button as with a key. With a key you have to turn it all the way back to off. With a button you just have to push the button again. There is zero difference in reaction time.
All turning a key is doing is pushing a button in a rotary manner.

And how would a key have helped in that situation? If you shut off a key you have the same results as turning off a button.

Even if a second push of the button cancels the start sequence (does it?) it's still not the same as simply letting go of the key.

Do you also prefer touch screens to knobs? Elon has a job for you.

I couldn’t shut the engine down while coasting. I might have at least been left with a salvageable block and some other parts. Really bummed that rod had to kill my fresh new blue moon oil pan baffle. I ended up with about 400lbs of scrap I was only able to salvage nuts and bolts off of. Oh, and a set of cam carrier dowels for a member on here Now I know how to kill it with push start.

Yep, start buttons have been around on cars since the 1940's (at least).

Why do some people think they are soooo special -
