Forgive me for the excessive questions, I am a noob and this is my first car bought with warranty/from the stealership.
The maintenance program is "recommended" by the dealership and the manufacturer. For grandma in her minivan I think it's a good idea that she has the dealership help her and remind her because she knows nothing about how the vehicle works and has no clue what the signs are for problems.

For an 86 owner.. and enthusiast.. I think we're all willing and able to maintain our vehicles.. so I encourage everyone to do their own maintenance.

You are not required to have a dealership maintain your car. Warranty cannot be voided by taking it to an independent shop or doing it yourself. The only way they can refuse to repair something under warranty is if they can prove that it was not maintained.. ie.. go 30k miles with no oil change and the oil turns to sludge and the engine seizes up.

If you do your own maintenance, keep a record of it and maybe some receipts for proof.. You'll be fine.

The only thing I will say about having a dealership maintain is that it will help you sell the car later on. People like to buy used cars that have all the records of dealer maintenance. But here's the problem.. that might get you an extra few hundred dollars.. but you probably overspent by a couple thousand to get it by paying dealer rates.

Keep asking questions.. we're all here to help. Hell.. I'll walk you through an oil change.. or even do it for you to teach you if you want to come to my house.

hmm, I don't remember hearing about required inspections to keep warranty, is this true?

I just did an oil change at 15k but didn't do the inspection. It was cheap as hell too.

The cost was $35 or something at the dealer. Less than doing it myself which is pretty insane. I will definitely go back to the dealer, last time I did a synthetic change w/ filter cost me $50.

We should start an 86mi fb group. It's easier to organize meetups that way.

Funny enough, I was going to see if there was an interest in that if the sticker was well received.
