If the "leaked" photo of the time line is to be believed it is supposed to hit the market mid 2021 but even that has no form of official support so is questionable at best.
Any and all guesses about when we will se it will be exactly that, guesses! Some may guess right but it won't be based on facts or data just plain dumb luck.
Assuming mid-2021 retail, would make sense that we may see early teasers or even a reveal this Fall at one of the Auto shows.

Or next week or next month or next year. Guesses based upon assumptions are just pissing into the wind. How many things from the auto industry ever "make sense"?

No manual, +300lbs~, and astronomical price.

I could only imagine the outcry that would happen. The sky would be on fire.

You also forgot to add less roomy/practical and more ugly on your list...

But the lift back. That is the only thing I desire for the 86.

YES.

The car would be so much better with an 80s-style hatch.

The only new "real" release stuff I've seen is the new Subaru hybrid engine.

I've asked my broker about if they have heard anything a new twin, they haven't, and they are on top of all the new releases so they can typically order them ASAP.

No testing, no official releases, no "real" unofficial releases.

https://www.subaru.com.au/hybrid?cha...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Meh, hybrid sounds boring and slow.

New twin sales seem pretty low ATM as well.

I honestly can see them retooling the twins line at Fuji, soon.

But, like everyone else, this is just speculation based of hearsay and the current climate.

Hopefully they make a "real" Toyota one, RWD, IL4, manual.....call it what you will, as long as I can turn it into a fun little gokart.

Meh

Keep that hybrid in mind.
Of course sales are low. It happens every time a second Gen vehicle is anticipated. Everybody waits for the "Improved" one. They know this and build for lower demand.
The one thing we know for sure it is another joint venture. No all Toyota with an inline 4.

I love the 86 - and the only reason I am holding out is that the design is old. I've been watching this car since 2012 - and if I'm going to drop $30k on a new car I'd rather have a new design for the next 6 +years.

I don't really care if the performance specs are similar - I just want a "fresh" design if that makes sense. A new dash, interior, etc - but a spiritual evolution of the current car. Some of the magic has worn just because the car has been around for a while now.

That being said if my current car dies I'd get an 86 almost immediately - I just have the option to wait now.

the less obnoxious but more reputable sources are heavily hinting but not saying (because contractual obligations) the next gen won't be anything like the 1st gen.

buy now.
