They both use Aisin 6 speed manual...might be able to keep the 86 transmission to cut down on costs...Plus 32 bhp, plus 9 lb ft, 9k rpm rev limit, same torque curve over a wider powerband, smaller and lighter than a boxer engine, so overall weight reduction, better weight distribution, and an even lower center of gravity! The Renesis is really just an improvement upon everything that makes the FR-S/BRZ great! The Renesis would most likely make the car a true FMR, too!

LS1 and EJ207 (not the 257) are the only ones im considering.

If i wanted to have some unique and wildness to it for a fast show car..id do a 20B rotary.

If you had the 26B out of the 787B, a supercharger would just be unnecessary...

Also, a 20B would be amazing! It just sucks that a 20B swap into an RX-7 (if you have a reputable shop do the work, and do it right) can run up to the price of a new FR-S...

I'll play, since we're all being ridiculous.

I'd want either the:
*VW CFCA, which is a biTurbo Diesel 2.0L 4-cylinder with 177HP and 295LbFt. This would likely add weight being an iron block + two turbos, but the fuel economy would be excellent
*VW CEPA, the 2.5L 5-cylinder DI turbo with 335HP and 332LbFt. This is even more of a tank since it's bigger and still an iron block. I'm a big fan of inline-5's for their funky & fun exhaust tone.
*GM LS6, the 5.7L Gen3 V8. I'm partial to this engine versus Gen4 for balance; 405HP [out of the box] is plenty, and it still gets >30MPG with a slippery aero package and tall overdrive. This engine sounds fantastically masculine. The aluminum architecture wouldn't add too much weight, hopefully. This might be my 1st pick.....however I might as well go buy a C5 'vette.
*I've grown to enjoy the 'blown 2ZZ in my Exige. With a proper cruising gear it would get fantastic fuel economy, plus the high-revving nature is addictive. Lay this engine down for low height and you may have a good fit for the car in terms of matching character.
