Can't write rules that way, and just because this part has no real benefit (that probably means it still has a tiny bit of one... maybe) other parts (like those springs/swaybars perhaps?) do.

If you're running locally it's a good chance you'll have no objections, especially if you're up front about it - but if someone does, they have the rules on their side.

Has anyone done a direct comparison of a 245 to 255 re71?

Wider usually is better.

I'll be going to 245. I haven't run both sizes yet, but watching the temps and comparing against my competitors, I'm pretty sure 245 will be faster.

Possible reasons:

Better gearing
Lighter (1lb each?)
Get up to temp faster

Others have reported better response

did 245s last year and 255s the year before. didn't notice much difference really other than the slightly lower top speed due to the 245s being a little shorter. But only ran local and we have a runway so it might be different for more open course like they have in other regions.

I like the 255's better, at least on my 2017 car. Been running 245's for a long time and just switched to the 255's.

The 255's gave me an additional 2mph (in 2nd gear) according to the data, much needed on the shorter geared car I think.

Yeah it is pretty common to hit the top of 2nd and at National events a 3rd gear shift is a 50/50 shot to be required.

NNJR courses seem to be pretty fast, but I only ran two... High average speed anyway, not high peak speeds.

I was fighting to figure out third... Should have shifted 3 times the last course of the year, but I want getting all the downshifts as smooth as they needed to be and only went for two... More things to practice this year.

That was on 255/40 too.

That's the nice thing about living in north Texas. We have the huge Mineral Wells sight where we always have to shift to 3rd with 80+ sec courses.

Every national event I've done required 3rd gear including 2 pro solos.
