Exclamation HELP Orange Check Engine Light On

Hey everyone,

So today when I was heading to work, the car started up a bit oddly, not sure how to describe it but it felt slightly different and the CEL was on. It’s orange and constant (so not flashing on and off), and I’m not sure what it is. However, yesterday I was fiddling around in the boot and unplugged this cable (in the attachments), not knowing what it was, as I was trying to fix a problem I was having with some custom lights. I turned the key (in my case it’s push to start), but didn’t start the car, and there was a loud whining noise coming from the engine. I heard it a little bit as well today when I did start the car. I’m not sure whether these two instances are related, but I know that my car was fine the days before and had no issues. I also drove the car to work with the CEL on (I know not recommended but had no choice) and the car felt fine, didn’t hear any strange noises or whining, and didn't feel anything different.

Would anyone happen to know what I unplugged and whether it’s likely related to the engine light coming on? I’ve booked into Subaru to have them take a look but wondering if I can solve it on my own prior to. I’ve tried looking up how to get the error codes but so far found nothing useful.

Code reader to keep in the car: https://smile.amazon.com/Autel-AutoL...dp/B007XE8C74/

It's the one I keep in my car. Good for more than reading codes too. And you can always help friends who are near you and not near an auto parts store.

Put the keyboard in front of the car and have it tell us what's wrong with it.

You'd be surprised at the shit some people say. Like "As long as the check engine isn't red it's fine."

Lazy people will find a way to be lazy, and thieves will always find a way to run out the clock for the warranty on a freshly sold heap of tra- eh, "Great Deal(tm) on this experienced, well taken care of, fine example of an automobile".

(don't worry about all the dash lights though, that just tells you things are working)

Hello YYBRZ and welcome to the club -

I suggest you plug that thing back in. Then invest in a code reader. Read the code. Erase the code and see if it comes back. If it does, disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds. Hit the brake pedal. Reconnect the battery, start the car and see if the CEL comes on. If not, maybe you just got lucky.

If the CEL comes back, let us know what the code is and maybe we can help.

Well since they logged out just after Sound made post 2 and haven't been back I doubt they even saw it.

I wouldn't see a doctor unless it does that for more than four hours
