Toyota is ditching the V6 in favor of the 2.4T motor. (as is the norm for the automotive world, they are actually one of the last to make that transition)
The Highlander just recently dropped the V6 for the 2.4L Turbo motor. And the new Lexus RX ditched the V6 for that 2.4 turbo as well. Toyota seems to suck at tuning their turbo engines though... Its got less HP, more torque (and obviously peaks lower) but gets about the same MPG as the V6. IT seems to me Toyota's rugged trucks don't get a "regular" hybrid (which likely would have been the same one as in the Venza and Sienna, 2.5L hybrid if it were available on the Tacoma), they get the "performance" focused hybrid MAX powerplants which focuses on the power levels rather than the efficiency, probably makes sense on a truck application as perhaps the "regular" hybrids may not be powerful enough to do truck things. |

I thought it'd look a bit more Tundraish based on those camo'd mules, but it doesnt stray too far off the current look, so its kind of in between Tundra and current Taco. I also wouldnt be surprised if alot of Toyota's upcoming cars...were actually showcased in that EV reveal... Some of them are turning out to be production cars in some form.... The Compact CUV EV = the BZ3x The red hatch EV = Toyota Crown Hatch the EV sedan = Toyota BZ3 (chinese market model) another compact CUV = looks like the next gen CH-R Truck concept EV = looking like the 2024 Tacoma EV cruiser concept = i wonder if Toyota is going to try to revive this as the return of a smaller FJ cruiser as an EV (EV Cruiser?) to get a little bit of a headstart on the FJ/Bronco/Wrangler market as an EV. Land Cruiser nameplate is supposedly returning but llkely not as the current 300 series model. Perhaps giving the EV cruiser the Land Cruiser name will print them money. I think it looks horrible. The latest Tundra is a bad design, and this carries on that resemblance (on purpose, of course). The hood is extra tall for no reason (it stands out quite a bit in a disproportionate manner) and the huge grill up from carries on the "look at me I'm compensating for my tiny pecker" styling language.
Bravo for a 6sp continuing to be offered. Boo Hiss Boo for everything else.

This thing was previewed/hidden in plain sight with that Toyota 15 BEV announcement way back when.
It was one of the few vehicles that actually had production looking details on it. (like real door handles and side mirrors) All you needed to do to it was take the grille "cover" off and it was pretty much the next gen Taco. Im not sure if the "teaser per week" strategy is really helping them here..... Just like with the Tundra people just got annoyed/pissed off with them after maybe like 2 teasers....especially with a an actual production leak somewhere in between the start of the teaser and the reveal date. |

Toyota seems to be on a truck blitz lately.
New Tundra and Sequoia came out late last year/early this year The 2024 Taco is being revealed on May 19 The Grand Highlander was revealed not too long ago The Lexus TX variant of the Grand Highlander was teased a few days ago. Today they just dropped a 2024 Lexus GX teaser so that's coming soon too. The Land Cruiser is apparently coming back in some form (Doesn't seem like it'll be the 300 series), That really only leaves the 4Runner in desperate need of an update (word is it'll be a 2025 model so after all these trucks are revealed) |
