That image doesn't hold much in the US any longer, although since it is a more expensive car the clientele is almost always going to be older. The V series cars and the Escalade have changed a lot of that impression here, at least for those paying attention.

Yea, the sales difference between Canada and US for the Bolt is pretty striking (in 2021 they sold 24,827 in the US and 4,675 in Canada)

That actually is a very good sales number for a Canadian version of any car.
Even our best sellers usually only run around 10% to 15% the US volumes. Since that is around 18% it is above the normal comparisons. All makes sense when you consider that at a population of 38 million Canada is slightly over 10% of the population of the US.

Also the regional differences come into play. Maybe he doesn't see many in the relatively upscale Thornhill area but I see them every single day in the smaller city of Woodstock and on the highway nearby.

That all makes sense, I just hadn't thought much about car sales in Canada. Given how much EVs typically hate the cold, that is a good number of sales.

Our weather is the same as Detroit's, for reference. Buffalo, NY gets tons of snow, but not us.

I used to be in the building business so i am basing this on the snow load strength requirements for the roof in various areas. London ON, where tcoat lives, a university town and administrative centre for Ontario between Toronto and Detroit, gets 1.5x the snow we get annually. Lots of professors and school people there, conservative place.

We don't seem to have the giant luxury SUV with huge chromed wheels status thing here that seems prevalent in the US. Especially for younger people. Most SUVs I see look factory stock including tons of G Wagons, which I consider the status symbol for when a Jeep isn't expensive enough. Lol

Thornhill is just a burb, Toronto border is 3.5 miles away.
There's tons of Teslas to the point that they are dime a dozen cars to me. Absolutely nothing they offer excites me

I could never figure out why there were so many Teslas in little Woodstock (where I work) until found out there is a charging station just off the 401. I see swarms of the things every day. More often than not they are the guy doing exactly 100 while refusing to move over in the passing lane of the 401.

You want to see SUVs with big chrome wheels and pickups raised to about 5 feet in the air just head to any rural community.

I was thinking more of south FL with tons of Escalades, Navigators, Excursions etc with oversized aftermarket wheels that probably warp from potholes. I remember maybe 15 years ago when Toronto Caribbana was on (now renamed Caribbean Festival I think), I was somewhere downtown where there were lineups of the aforementioned vehicles all with US plates visiting town. But of course things change (if gas stays at $7/gallon) and maybe Rivians or Lucid Air will be the thing, not to forget eHummer.

As cars turn into smartphones over the decade, I continue to savor the raw experience of my loud low and fast twin. Progress (or fuel crisis) will be when electrification pays for me to part ways with my daily, STI with 30,000 miles on it. In the meantime, the twin is hibernating for the next 5 months despite the crazy mild weather.

Just come to Calgary

Lifted trucks galore!

And i still pass them on snow roads. I saw a guy struggling and spinning his big wheels with his lightly lifted tacoma struggling to go up a slight incline during the snowstorm on Monday. Drove right past him up that same incline in the 86 lol.

Looks like GM is gearing up to produce AWD LYRIQS after the first of the year. They just announced to dealers they'll be building demo units (one per dealership) and they will be AWD.

They have also started building the Debut Editions (Nov. 2021 orders) in Black, to date all have been gray.

The forums are going ape-shit crazy over the lack of communication to the deposit holder through. Basically zero information until your car is scheduled to go into production, which is already several months behind.

Sound familiar?

GM has a knack for shooting itself in the foot.
I dunno what it is like nowadays but way back when, they used to create cars with a purpose, which failed horribly at doing that purpose, it got improved over time and when they finally got the car RIGHT (as in, hey its finally good and good at its intended purpose!) they cancel the thing......

Cadillac has published the 2024 model year brochure and Order Guide.

I really hope when they convert the remaining confirmed 2023 orders to 2024 (the current rumor running rampant) I get the opportunity to switch to the AWD Red Sport shown when you first open the brochure.

Pricing supposedly released on Monday (1/23) but those with confirmed orders haven't heard anything yet. They have delivered quite a few in the past two weeks, though no numbers are published.

Looks pretty slick. Am I wrong though in that the side profile reminds me of the BZ4X and Solterra?

It's similar but larger, having seen both in person (LYRIQ and BZ4X)

I wish Caddy stuck with the styling elements that they used in the Sixteen concept.

All the newer cars dont seem to give off that same type of presence as that did.
Not even the Celestique IMO.

Yea, I much prefer the beefy muscular look of the last CTS-V generation. Current ones look too refined.
