I think it would be cool. But it's a much MUCH bigger departure from tradition than simply putting on Turbo.

That that I would ever buy one. I like Corvettes but I dunno. There's something about them that has lost their luster over the years. I think they have become a bit over-saturated.
East Kentucky! That is East Kentucky!

Bowling Green, where the Corvette is made, is West Kentucky and it's not the same, totally different culture more midwest/south than West Virginia.

Geez .

LOL... I've lived in Kentucky before and I'll never go back.

Although, the new build your Vette program or whatever it's called could change my mind one day.

It is a cool program. I'd like to at least visit the Museum and associated stuff there someday too.

It'll be interesting to see which direction the Corvette goes. The Mustang was rumored to get a 4 banger again with a turbo and some of the V8 guys at Ford shot that idea down. I do see anything of that caliber happening to the Corvette but hey they could go with a small displacement V8 .

I guessing that this would give the vette better milage if it wasn't pushed hard?

I imagine it would give better mileage in extreme applications too.

I hear that, but it could be improved upon.

Why not? Doesn't the Porsche Spyder 918 hybrid have like 500 horsepower and supposedly get over 75mpg?

Improvement breeds competition. Only makes it better for all of us.

improving fuel efficiency tech. on a model that does not need it seems like misallocated research, put the money into making the car sportier and competitive.

I'm sorry, but who gives a damn about highway mileage in a sports car? If they can improve mileage under heavy load, then we're talking.

GM might be trying to boost their fleet mpg, and the gas guzzlers are the first thing they need to improve. I'm not sure what the government demands will be in the future, but if it's something live 35 mpg for the average, you have to start somewhere.

Yeah I get that, but like stated above, the highway mpg for the Vette is already pretty decent. There are other vehicles that can help balance that average, especially when you consider sales volumes. My point was that I don't believe they are targeting highway fuel economy, but perhaps performance fuel economy. I think that's where a tt setup would come into play.

I checked out the site and it gets 21 combined, 26 highway. That's great for a V8, but still not impressive for a coupe. Anyways, yeah, GM probably isn't looking for a prius vette anytime soon but I think that they're trying to make a different engine with better fuel economy- why make one that will guzzle more?
