I believe they are illegal because you are tampering with the vehicles safety features (removing the airbag) but I have had one for over a year and it has never been an issue with the local law...

Correct in California, removing the airbag in the steering wheel is illegal for a road car. Side note, it's also REALLY DUMB unless you're driving around with a 6 point harness, helmet and HANS device. Not calling you or OP dumb, just the action of removing the airbag if you're not using those other safety systems designed to save your life. Be safe out there.

Not to mention that there is zero legitimate reason to remove the steering wheel in a street car anyway.

It isn't 1979 anymore. Show me airbag related fatality (where the non defective airbag caused it) in the last 20 years.
Cars without that "explosive device" have killed far, far, far, more.
Airbags are indeed a good idea.

Did I misread that or do you genuinely believe airbags do more danger than good? That's an interesting viewpoint for sure.

EDIT: Tcoat beat me to it.

my FRS is the only car I have owned that has even had an airbag in it so I don't feel less safe really... Also I drive like a slug 95% of the time. never more than 5 mph over speed limits, come to complete stops at lights and stop signs, im a very careful and alert driver. I did it purely for aesthetic reasons because the wheel I have just looks so damn good!

Well, a T-Rex needs to remove it so he can get out of the car in an emergency!

Yeah, you are correct, need those airbags.

Your crumple zones and the whole structure are designed for the airbags to protect you. The whole "I have never had them and am still alive" thing doesn't work because the people that didn't have them and are dead so can not post.

You can be the most carful and alert driver in the world and sill have a head on. Look at the number of cars totaled on here alone.

The wheel won't look so pretty with teeth, hair and brain tissue embedded in it.

Nope. No jokes on this subject and the pictures are way too gross to post.
