I drive down to San Diego every so often. It's about a 3 hour jaunt, and it's some of the most fun I've had driving a car. When there's no traffic...Nothing beats it.

Wife and I did a twenty hour round trip over a weekend and it was as nice as could be. She has a Yaris and my back starts to kill me within an hour. The FR-S was comfortable all the way and by the time we got back home I would have been fine to just keep driving.

Our only stop was at the half way mark each direction for gas/food/wizz - averaged 33 mpg.

Only on the internet. One of those nights where you think a road trip through South America would be totally badass, then you learn about the Darien Gap and think "How hard can it be"...then research the Darien Gap and decide a cross-country drive to California would probably work just as well.

Still considering it? It didn't seem completely impossible, but holy shit not something I would try.

Yeah, I have gotten some friends interested too. It's going to happen but not until we do some smaller pratice trips, etc.

I just saw this old post pop up and realized I never updated this with trip information. We drove from Syracuse, N.Y. To Tampa Bay, Fl. 1347 mi. from my driveway to my cousins driveway. We took main highways due to night driving not many sights to see. Exactly 20 hours +- 5 minutes. Was an awesome drive, car was comfortable And had plenty of room. Has an annoying buffeting sound from the rear. Starts around 80, maybe the fender liner where the holes for mudflats are?.
Distance: 1347 miles.
Time: 20 hours. 6PM-2PM.
Avg: 67.35 MPH.
Stops: 6
MPG: 32.8
Luggage: roughly 300-400lb.

Good update and yeah - you fit a ton of stuff.

What was your longest leg? Back in July I did 15.5 hours non-stop and was good to go longer if I needed to. Turned around and did the same trip back four days later no sweat. This car is fantastic for road tripping.

The one thing I discovered is I moved my seat about two notches closer to the steering wheel. I normally keep it all the way back for daily driving but I found it to be a little more comfortable for my arms on the long haul.

My only complaint about the car on long trips is the noise maker. Delete that stupid thing and the car is a blast on long trips! Great gas mileage, and comfortable

My wife and I started a 3-week trip May 31st in our BRZ from our home in Denver. The BRZ was barely broken in with 1184 miles on the odometer. The car was packed full, including two large back packs dedicated to rock climbing gear. We went as far as Cape Cod and Kittery Point, Maine. Celebrated our 25th anniversary in Lake Placid. Trip totals: 5,081 miles and 140.4 gallons of gas, for a 36.2 MPG average (automatic trans). Max speed was 90 MPH, we used the AC whenever we needed (i.e. most of the time), drove interstates, secondary roads and some dirt roads, had good weather and torrential downpours.

Since that trip, I've run the car at two track days, where the automatic certainly simplified the task of learning an unfamiliar track and the lethargic 0-25 MPH acceleration isn't an issue

Bottom line: This is my favorite car. Ever. And I've had over a dozen cars in my 61 years.

This is off topic, but is there any mod i should get or avoid getting before i take the car on a road trip? maybe something that would increase mpg, ride quality or vice versa. I figured i should avoid headers and an exhaust due to it being louder than stock.
