As I understand it, the first deliveries included both the first and second shot required, so the best we could do before week 3 is hit 50% distribution.
Sorry, my bad, the 1.5m number is related to UK jabs..

Oh, right, should have thought of that. I was thinking of your note in context of my post right above it, not as an independent statement.

301,655 cases today. New record. 3,914 deaths.

California had a bad day with 50k cases. That is equivalent to the US having 450k cases. LA is getting its ass handed to it. When adjusted for population, many places are bad of course. UK had a US equivalent of 332k cases and 6,469 deaths, even if they only had 68k cases and 1,325 deaths. California has half the population, yet almost the same number of cases, and yet a third the deaths. It all is very vexing.

Seems like there are major issues with trying to vaccinate healthcare workers who are refusing the vaccine. I was really able to talk a majority of our staff to get the vaccine and really help shift sentiment, but apparently some areas of the country 80%+ are refusing. They are trying financial incentives and all sorts of things.

The system I worked for finished up first round shots on Friday because second round starts on Monday. They released the number that had gotten first shots. It was less than 50% of our eligible staff.

My particular extended team the rate was much higher, about 94%, including several that had contracted COVID along the way.

Honestly I'm a bit concerned. Starting to hear more relatives be concerned that they shouldn't be taking it.

There must be a lot of false info traveling. I think one of the bigger turnoffs is (like I think we discussed in here recently) that masks will still be needed after being vaccinated due to viral shedding. People hear they'll still need masks, so they wind up associating that with "why get the vaccine anyway?"...

What they probably don't understand is that we will need to have a certain number of people vaccinated before we can remove the masks. Until then, the numbers will likely not fall to endemic levels, so yes, their refusal to get a vaccine is no different than people refusing to wear a mask, in that, it just prolongs this thing and extends the lockdowns.

There seems to be a problem with having a little bit of knowledge and being smart, such that a person thinks they are informed. Almost every MD I have talked to is getting the vaccine. Compare that to nurses and ancillary staff, and it there is a stark difference.
