What intake are you using on this? I did some driving around town this weekend and my intake temps are just way too high (around 150 degrees), looks like a much better setup. @kask2_6.0

It's a modified corvette intake. They are pretty expensive but keep an eye out on ebay and sometimes you can come across a used one at decent price that just needs cleaning. Picked that one up for $250.

Finally got around to fitting the strut braces. Had to make brackets to offset the firewall side of the oem braces up about 1” to clear the coils. With different coil mounting locations this wouldn’t have been an issue. May switch this up in the future.

I’ve been wanting to put those strut braces back in as well. I think it just makes good sense to have them in place.

You came up with a great idea here. I’ll be doing the same thing.

I just got the strut bars, brackets, throttle body, etc back from powder coating. Difference is subtle but it’s looking great with everything matching now! Also, swapped out the fuel rails and added a pulse damper to my distribution block. Just need to do something about that dipstick handle now..

I guess I haven’t updated this thread in a long time. No major changes in the past year but still making some improvements here and there. Bought a 3D scanner so I’ve been playing with that a bit. Pretty awesome to be able to make parts accurately fit hard to measure spaces straight from CAD.

Also just made some brackets to bias the coils toward the front of the engine to allow for strut bar clearance. With the stock valve covers and new brackets the braces can fit without the adapters I made previously. Initial test fit is looking good. Using Katech TA2 plug wires. And the new color probably adds at least 30 hp.

Toying with the idea of making these new hood vents to further improve cooling by using a larger opening and taller wicker/fin profile. Plus they might look kinda cool and different from what everyone else has. Some design limitations in trying to cover the existing holes but I think this look would work. Thoughts?

This was a little too square so I changed the leading edge angle to match the body line more.

Nice one! I like your intake and radiator duct. Similar to my solution, but you obviously can make use of a little more freedom due to the non factory crash beam. Unfortunately thats something I cant do over here in Germany.

May I ask which 3d Scanner and software you are using? Is it able to generate a solid from the scan?

Concerning hood vents: Im using a hood similar to the Seibon TS Style combined with a similar radiator duct and Made good expierience with that. Only drifting especially with A/C in is still limited. Besides that it's working great. But I learned that massive oil cooling is needed in addition and also I will swap my Koyo Radiator for a more advanced unit. I hope to be able to drift the car with A/C on one day without Heat issues. We'll see...

I'm working on a design that encompasses a HUGE increase in coolant capacity and retains hood latch. It does require a different crash beam though to keep AC condenser. You can either move the condenser or notch the crash beam slightly for it all to fit.

I'm using the EinScan HX scanner and Geomagic Essentials for post processing. It doesn't generate a solid but you do get a nice point cloud. Using Geomagic I can then add planes, axis, cylinders, etc. to features I'm interested in. Then export as a surface or 3D image. Then with Solidworks I can use the features I mapped for mates mates and measurements and use the surface or image as more of visual references. Still learning the most efficient way to use this process but getting better at it.

I haven't had the car back on track yet since finishing the swap so I don't really know if the additional venting is required or not. But still doesn't hurt to try and improve the cooling as much as possible with a big engine in a small engine bay. My biggest hope is that it further drops under hood temps at low speeds. I've made some PDM logic changes to turn my radiator fans on at 15% speed any time I reduce speed below 10mph and coolant is above 180 to keep some air moving through there at least. I really need to get proper head shield on the headers like what you have on your car. The header wrap is more of a band aid for now.

Sounds great! Unfortunately crash beam modifications are a nogo for a German street car. Though, there are some guys and even companys arround here doing some modifications anyway. But I dont wanna be that guy. Driving arround in a car thats highly modified in any case is kind of gamble in Germany, even If everything is approved. Cops are allowed to
challange any approval at will and seize the car for a review of the approvals.

Since there are also some guys arround in Germany which doesnt respect any rules of common sense and behave like idiots in the middle of the city, cops are sensitive for modified cars of any kind. Rules concerning charging someone for speeding are pretty strict, the cops are only able to do so If they have a proper measurement. Also the fines are not that high, even If they where raised multiple times druing the last years. The result is that they tend to use the modifications instead to get people of the road. Unfortunately the rules in that segment are that strikt, that even approvals which seem 100% correct can be rejected after review.

So BTT, sorry for offtopic.

Concerning the hood vents: Believe me, you want to have them on a LS swapped car. Definately.
I also modified the switch on temps and speeds of the fans in a similar manor. But the ground speed Im switching on is even higher.
Again, oil cooling is crucial. Ive been through several oil cooler versions and increased size and airflow in multiple steps. I learned that better oil cooling had a big Impact to coolant temps, even If the oil temps itself didnt lower that much. Currently Im using the biggest version of the Setrab Slimline coolers (14rows, 592mm wide). Since also this didnt lower oil temps as far as I want to see it, I'll now add a second oil cooler of a similar size aß a final measure.
