As expected, I finally hit 50k today. It hasn't been easy. Twice I have considered seriously to sell the car and get another SUV. I don't know whether we shall have another 50k together. Sad.

I just passed 50k. It took 3.5 years. My commute is 79 miles tough trip. I will have a high mileage BRZ soon enough.

Here's my BRZ engine startup at 120k miles. 10k miles after valve spring recall, fresh spark plugs, revised throwout bearing, fresh 0w20 oil.

You're selling your FR-S though and moving up to a Hakone.

You can now look down on everybody with a peasant non-special edition twin.

Guess this is the new high mileage thread.

Up to 113k miles, 2013 FR-S. No major issues, no recalls performed, only a new TOB. Still need to do the plugs.

I'm on original plugs too at 175K. I recently looked up the process and it looks like a PITA so I keep putting it off. It still runs/pulls fine so I'm going with the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' approach.

I'm not in a rush. I've been planning on doing it by 120k since the car had 45k.

wondering if this really is good advice. I had a car years ago in which I neglected the plug change interval. As the plugs became worn the gaps grew, apparently causing the coil packs to work harder. I gave the car to a workshop to rectify rough running and was presented with a bill for multiple failed coil packs, which weren't cheap. I was told this was due to the use of plugs let to run until out of spec.

It was still running / pulling fine right up to the point that it wasn't so I'm wondering if the "aint broke, don't fix" approach is right on this one.

The plug change interval on this car is 100,000km which is pretty high. They are called out to be replaced for a reason so suggesting that it shouldn't be done because they take actual effort to change is pretty dumb IMO.

I wasn't trying to provide advice to anyone, just explaining what I am doing. I will likely do them once it gets warmer out.

100k km interval for plugs is not long. For Honda's, it's 105k miles. I agree waiting too long can kill the coils. Maybe there's a happy medium. 100k km seems too short when so many guys can reach 100k miles no drama.

How much are coil packs for the BRZ? On my previous car (VW GLI), I'd just replace the coil packs when doing spark plug changes anyways. Coil packs were kind of notorious for failing early with the VW Audi 2.0L TSI. Maybe not necessary to do both at once but didn't mind paying an extra $100 CAD to not have to worry about coil packs for the next 90k km... And that was on an inline-4.

With the BRZ, I'm probably going to pay someone to do the spark plugs. If they're going to lift the engine, I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to just do the coil packs at the same time.
