Thoughts on buying used coilovers?

I saw a post on someone parting out a set of KW V3s for 1200. He told me they were 15k miles old. The 86 he was parting out from didnt seem to look like it was in a wreck, but his entire suspension was heavily modified (probably for stance or track).

Whats the overall consensus of buying used coilovers? I know its always best to get new just to be safe, but 1200 seems like a steal considering they are literally double the price brand new. I was considering either getting them or ordering a new set of CSG Flex A's. Some input would be awesome, thanks!

Low mileage you can get a bargain
High mileage or with improper settings/install they might be trashed and getting them rebuilt puts you at the cost of being better off buying new.

15k miles and properly installed you might get another 15k-45k miles of solid performance, maybe more, or they might be trashed and in a year you're sick of them and go for the Teins.

imho for $1,200 it's a learning experience

I think I'll just go with the Teins! $1200 is an expensive lesson!

If they are not leaking or damaged I wouldn't sweat it. KW claims rebuild intervals of 60K miles. Rebuilds are not cheap but all coilovers will need them eventually, I am doing mine this winter. I bought my T2's used for 900, they where a set off a track car. Their performance may have been degraded from new but they are worlds better then the Teins I was on.

Ask him how he used the car. 15k street miles is much different than 15k track miles or mix.
