Forged internals
Before I start this I already know 90% of you are going to hate on this so if you want to say something stupid please don't, I'm just trying to get your guys' opinion. That being said, I'm active duty military and going to deploy again soon and won't have internet while I'm there. When I get back I plan on giving myself a welcome home present and turbocharging my BRZ and my goal is the mid to high 300's for hp. I also want to be totally safe with this project. I know that low-compression pistons and forged rods and crankshaft would help me to be able to safely boost my car to this hp but was wondering what else you guys think I should do to. I already have my whole turbo setup thought up but I'm just looking on the internal work to support it. Also some links to reputable manufacturers of forged pistons/rods/crankshaft would be nice, I tried to find some on here but had little luck.

HORSEPOWER!!!
Let me start off by saying thank you for serving our country. lol.
now you already have some of it figured out (forged internals) your main concern just be pistons,rods,bearings and fasteners. The stock Crankshaft will be fine. You will also will need new fuel injectors to properly handle the given hp. And would be advisable to switch out to a new fuel pump as well as a new clutch to support (given hp). Look up in the turbo threads and follow/read some of the builds by companies and look at what they used and how they got to their goals to give you a better idea. as to links for forged internals. http://www.briancrower.com/makes/subaru/misc_rods.shtml http://ft86speedfactory.com/engine-4...c89ab5c5a12df5 http://www.crawfordperformance.com/p...3-brzfrsgt-86/ |

So far, here's where I'm at, without touching the engine;
FB premium stage 1 GTX28 $7000 (with goodies like injectors, fuel pump, etc.) Robispec radiator/oil cooler $1200 Tomei 80R exhaust $1000 Nameless 3" overpipe and front pipe $500 Crawford oil catch can $300 ACT clutch $600 Hydra standalone EMS $1800 (Ecutek is less at $750) Hydramist methanol injection system $800 Beatrush front crash bar $300 Labor and tune estimate $2000 Still to go at some later point; Vented hood $700 Big brakes $2-3000 Full roll cage $2-3000 More suspension goodies $2-3000 This I'm hoping for 300-plus HP on 91 gas. If you go with E85, or WMI, you should be able to get to 350 or higher without touching the engine block. |

There's a few choices for forged internals that I've seen. I ended up going with @FullBlown's short-block build with CP 9:1 pistons, and some unknown forged rods. It really depends on your goal. If you want those #s on pump gas then you'll probably need to drop the c/r but E85 wouldn't be hard to do on a stock engine.
I just searched the forum for 'forged pistons' and there's a few options people are posting about. Quote:

Thanks a lot guys, I was already planning on new injectors, spark plugs and fuel pump I was just curious about what I should know about the engine internals.

Low compression pistons and rods would be the only things I would worry about. The easy route is just getting a preassembled block from Full Blown, but I tend to mistrust local machine shops and would rather know that my block was assembled properly.

Just added this list up, and it's a tad over 15 grand.
Add another 3 grand for a built shortblock. This number could be lower with other choices on turbo kit, and ECU. Quote:
