Just curious has any 86/BRZ owner on here driven the Supra yet? Understand journos have been doing comparisons to the twins but it would be good to get an owner’s perspective.

I’ve seen 2 on the road thus far and I must admit you do look twice. They really stand out, but I guess they’re still new too.

Here's a deal on a "new" Supra if anyone's interested!

Motor Trend did comment about how the Supra's rear end did not react well to rough road surfaces. Did you notice the condition of their chosen drag strip?

Well that rules out sales in Michigan then.

... but not in a good way. They stand out like how the elephant man would stand out in a crowd

Surprisingly I haven’t seen one in Dallas yet! Which is strange given how so many people here want the newest thing.
I’ve been thinking about the new Supra a lot. And I’m ready to fully embrace it. LOL After watching reviews of cars like Aston Martins where they will use a Mercedes engine, etc I think Toyota made a smart move using the BMW straight 6. And even the chassis, it’s an incredible car. I’m very seriously considering buying one, after I test drive it and some of the hype does down. I also think it looks bada** I could care less what all the “experts” think. Lol

In Brisbane and haven’t seen a single one yet. Rare as hens teeth! Hope they look better in person than in photos and video. So far, when I see an 86 next to a Supra in a review or article, the 86 actually looks better to my eye. But I may be biased.

I saw a yellow one at the dealer, but haven't seen any in the wild otherwise.

I have a feeling this is a car much better appreciated and ogled over in person.

86 vs new Supra--review by TFL car

The 86 looks much more simple of course, in a good way. The 86 also appears to be wider and flatter. That may be optical illusions though. The Supra has a lot of “presence” that the current 86 doesn’t.

I think the higher, bulbous bonnet of the Supra contributes to this. That big, relatively tall BMW straight 6 just takes up vertical room, and pedestrian crash regulations require enough space between engine and bonnet to provide a buffer zone, so there was probably not much they could do. The FA20 flat 4, much as we criticise it, does allow for a really flat and low bonnet in comparison. I think that is the key visual factor to my eye.

When I finally see one I’ll see what I think. I don’t think the Supra would ever be described as beautiful though. Purposeful, maybe, but it sure isn’t a Ferrari, or even just as classically clean looking as a 370Z, or as wide and impressive as an LC 500. The Supra’s fake vents annoy me, too, they should have stuck with functional only.

That's a very good way to put it and may be one of the reasons I prefer the 86. It has somewhat subdued classic lines compared to most modern cars. I find most cars today are trying too hard. I do like the new Supra but prefer my FR-S. I'm considering another in the next few years.I'd Like to see the "new" 86
