We will be competing in Global Time Attack next weekend in Palm Beach, with our FRS!

We have officially entered our FRS into the Street RWD class of Global Time Attack! I'm really excited to announce that I will be driving our Scion in what is sure to be one of the first, if not THE FIRST, competitive, timed events on track with the FRS/BRZ platform in the US.

The plan right now is to run the car as it came from the factory, with some upgraded brake pads, and see what it can do on track. I'm curious to see how the chasis performs in the long duration, high load corners at Palm Beach. We certainly would like to be competitive in our class and bring home a win for Scion, but the real goal of this outing is to start learning about this car.

It's strengths and weaknesses will be assesed and based on the info we gather, we'll head off in a direction to fix the things we don't like and build on the things we do like. It will also be fun to show off the car infront of the Formula Drift/Global Time Attack crowd!

Wish us luck, and check out our facebook and instagram for updates from the track - and of course, back here in ft86club for pictures and video as we share our experiences in developing and racing our FRS on the track.

Best of luck and make us proud. When is the event? Please let us know if there are any issues with tracking the car like oil or fuel starvation issues. Thanks.

The event is http://www.globaltimeattack.com/ Round 3 from Palm Beach International Raceway on Friday June 1st and Saturday June 2nd.

Like I said, our plan is to run the car in factory spec, stock wheels and tires, with the only mod being brake pads and fluid. We're still deciding on compounds and will likely try a couple combinations.

Our track wheel/tire setup may also arrive in time. If it does, we will test it on that setup as well. We're aiming to run the car in NASA TTD later in the year and so, we went with a 245/40/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sport square setup (the limit of the rules for that class). I don't anticipate any fitment issues at the stock ride height, but it will be interesting to see what happens when we lower it. I'm hopeful that with the right wheel setup and the lower tire profile (40 vs 45), we can get away with it.

I'm anxious to see how it affects steering feel and balance too. This this is so tossable, and communicative, but still grippy on the factory rubber, I'd hate to lose too much of that steering feel with heavier, grippier tires.

Some quick video thrown together from today: The track was damp for most of the day, but this lap was from the dryest session we had. The two clips at the end are from an earlier session, sliding around a bit. Not fast, but fun! Sorry it's not the best quality - just wanted to get it posted up tonight. Thank you, Hampton Inn internet service, apologies to the other guests for taking up the bandwidth!

Enjoy!

Looks like fun. How did those 245/45s affect the handling of the car? Everything else was stock except the brake pads and fluid?

Nice video. Yes, more info please. Are you using 245/45-17 or 245/40-17? Wouldn't 245/45-17 be a little too big in diameter? What wheel did you mount it on? Is that an AIM Solo you have there? Thanks.
