reset TPMS?

I took the car to my favorite mechanic for oil change and tire rotation. He thinks he needs to reset TPMS because the tires are in different locations.

Does this make sense? Do the sensors say "I'm the left front, pressure OK"? Or if I get a low tire warning, does the system try to tell me which one?

It sounds to me like a non-value-added, money-subtracted activity, but I've never had TPMS before so I'm not sure.

I just got wheels and tires installed with my TPMS tranfered from my stock wheels and they told me the same thing. They reset for free so I didn't argue. From what I've read, our system doesn't differentiate the tires like some cars do, so it shouldn't matter. They probably just do it to all cars to avoid any issues.

Nope, just a light that indicates at least one of them is low.

Thanks for the replys. That'll make it easier to control my mechanics. They want to "do it right the first time", and I get a little pushback when I want to let something slide or if I've already checked something, so I need to know what I'm talking about.

If the light comes on they may need to be reset. Otherwise like has been said already no.

One point to back your stance up when trying to convince them that what they want to do is not necessary, is that our cars have a "Basic" form of TPMS, in that it does not differentiate between which tire is at which corner. We only have ONE warning light. Some cars have separate lights for each corner, in which case you would have to reset the system when you rotated wheels as they suggest. This can be further proven by looking at all warning lights displayed when the ignition is first turned on.
