How annoying is the oil return supposed to be? Mine won't line up properly have to twist the line quite a bit, just to try to make it align properly. I have the 90° on the pan

Any tips on fitting up the oil return line? I have the 90° fitting on the pan and can't seem to get the other end to line up properly. I'm in the process of mocking it all up for clocking the turbo. Don't want to tighten it all up till I get the oil return line to line up as best as possible.

The fitting that goes to/from the turbo should swivel. You said earlier you are having to twist the hose....so I'm envisioning you are attempting this with the barb end at a fixed position.

Finally got around for a dyno pull after install. I ran into no issues while installing the kit thanks to you guys!

I was honestly surprised by the numbers because it seemed low for how much it pulls. I can't imagine driving it at 350whp.

Yeah it was with 93 octane and 7 psi spring. I believe e85 will get it close to 300.

First thing I'll say is, customer service is great.* Im sure they were tired of hearing from me as I can be quite impatient.* The kit build time up until it was delivered to my door was almost 1 month exactly.* Was a wonderful surprise when it arrived Christmas Eve.* Arrive in two packages and took two UPS guys to drop it off.* One box was damaged but because the kit was package extremely well, no damage to components occurred.

On to the install......no instructions which made this install extra fun.* All in all, it took me the better part of a week to complete.* Mainly because I only worked on it a couple hours a day.* Ease of install, I give it 6 out of 10.**

On to my gripes.* First off, the tubing for the coolant running from the throttle body to the turbo is slightly bigger than the fittings on the block and the throttle body.* So when tightening the clamps to ensure the hoses sealed, the hose clamps broke.* No biggie, I went out the the hardware store and purchased heavy duty clamps.**

Next, the flange where the turbo mounts to the header could be turned about 2 degrees toward the engine.* There is plenty of clearance between the turbo and the serpentine belt but there is only about 1/8in clearance between the turbo and the radiator fan shroud.* Tweaking the flange inward would also allow the oil supply and return lines to be more vertical.* I also believe this adjustment would help with the downpipe as well.* My downpipe is barely touching a connector on the front of my engine.* I ended up wrapping the downpipe on top of the existing thermal coating and installing a turbo blanket.**

Great kit.* I will continue the review after tuning.

Alright well here's an update. The downpipe is causing problems on the cam position sensor. The pipes sits up against the connector. Trying to contact JDL for remedies.

Do you have a v-band or a 4 bolt flange on your downpipe entry? If you have v-band you may want to try loosening the DP, OP and FP and then rotating the DP away from the engine a little bit, which will pull the bottom of the DP away from the sensor, then re-tighten everything.

The downpipe shouldnt be touching the cam sensor, but it does sit a few CM away on mine (4 bolt downpipe entry). You can try wrapping the sensor and wiring with some DEI Reflect-a-gold tape to keep the heat off it.

As an update to all our JDL Turbo Kit customers. We are now implementing LSPI adjustments in all our tunes since November 2019, which includes version 28.00 and higher.

A short education post on what we have been spending a LOT of time on (within our tunes) over the better part of the last year in order to remove LSPI issues. We worked with other professional tuners, motor oil companies, and even vehicle manufacturers to understand what the issues are and how to best mitigate this issue while maintaining power and response even on 91 octane fuels.

You may ask what is LSPI. Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI)

This trait is inherent on high compression, forced induction, direct injected engines, such as the BRZ (with forced induction) and 2015+ WRX, that can cause the combustion to pre-ignite at low RPM's and high loads.

Here is a good article on what the issues are and what we are trying address in tune, along with other physical changes.

https://www.motor.com/magazine-summa...-pre-ignition/

We have found a few key items within the tune to mitigate this issue while trying to offering safety, drivability and power for daily commuters.

Some other things to watch are the oil that you are using in your engine. Cars that are prone to LSPI, please make sure you are using an oil that is SN PLUS rated.

Make sure to speak to your tuner about LSPI and how to best mitigate these issues through the type of oil you use, adjustments within the tune and even the brand of fuel you use.

Regards,
William Knose
