Question FIVE:AD vs 3D Carbon Kit: Any Difference?

I was always a fan of the FIVE:AD kit for the FR-S since the kit's design was inspired by the concept car.

Now that I'm finally in the position to get the kit -- some quick googling revealed that FIVE:AD discontinued making them.

Rumors has it that FIVE:AD sold their design to 3D Carbon, which the kit is offered on CARiD here:
https://www.carid.com/2013-scion-fr-...-15177393.html

$1032 for the kit painted seems too good to be true!
For comparison, the FIVE:AD kit painted went for $2050 on FT86SpeedFactory

Anyone have experience with 3D Carbon, or know more about how / if these two products are related?

Input on CARiD is also appreciated!

Last I checked, I have the same info as you. 3D carbon are the ones who will be making the five axis kit now. In terms of carid, there are mixed reviews. I've heard good and bad things about them. Just googling the site will give you some reviews of it.

It's a replica, just like either other kit on that website you linked.

Your post, stated as fact as it is probably incorrect.

On this board a member posted that he contacted 5AD looking for 5AD kit replacement parts (IIRC.) 5AD themselves referred him to 3D carbon to get it and said they had sold their design to 3D carbon.

Shortly afterwards Toyota announced Scion was folding up as a brand.

The pricing differential maybe/probably reflects a lower markup as 3D Carbon didn't have to recoup design and mfg setup & tooling costs for the kit. It's a 4 year old design now (still good looking IMO.)

i bought the kit from 3d carbon. fitment is great. instruction manual has both 3d carbon and five:ad printed on it.

Not sure how carid is selling it for 1032 painted when 3d carbon has it listed on their site for 995 unpainted

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Any picture of the instructions for the nonbelievers?

Well no actual five: ad logo but it still says it on there. Comes with adhesive promoter, adhesive strips including die cut pieces, and templates. The front, rear spats, and spoiler are perfect fit. Haven't installed the sides yet

Quick question, what was the turnaround time on that order? Do you recall?

Nope, 2 years ago when I called FIVE:AD they discontinued the spoiler and sold the moulds to 3D Carbon. Unless they use different mould materials it's the EXACT SAME spoiler not a replica.

I honestly don't remember but i think it was at my house within 2 or 3 weeks. They never notified me when it shipped. One day i got i call from a local delivery company saying they had a delivery for me and wanted to know when I'd be home

So 3D carbon's five axis is legit 5AD kit? I'm planning on getting one and CARID has it for $855 painted. Is this true?

3D Carbon is a legit 5AD kit. CARID is a hit or miss so be careful with them.

Thanks Bach. I asked CARiD support about it and they said that the item will come from 3D Carbon. They said they will be the one who will ship it. But CARid has cheaper price painted than one in 3D Carbon. I guess I'll have to do more research before I purchase.
