Those of you noticing this - can you check your oil level and see if it's still where it should be? I wonder if it's not engine oil but some other kind of lubrication coming from somewhere else.

Looks like it is coming from the bottom of this plate.

Dripping on to the block, then on to the header.

From a much lower angle, doesn't look like it could be coming from anywhere else.

Same with me. Mine started after my 15,000 service and I thought it might have been due to the dealership overfilling the oil (the dipstick level was reading 1-1.5" higher than full). I had the oil changed and the engine checked for leaks, with no leaks found (according to the dealer). I was still getting a burnt oil smell for the last week up to at least a couple days ago but didn't notice it yesterday or today.

Well, I just checked and my car has a similar (although bigger) spot of oil on that cylinder head plate. Looks like it might be time to make an appointment with the service department.

Add me to the oil leak list, my VIN is in the 3400 range. I have been smelling burning oil off and on since I got my car. I needed to take my car in for it's first oil change anyway. Thank you tonytduc for the heads up and sure47 the pictures! And no my oil level is just fine.

So it looks like it's a very small leak then. I too noticed some burning smell coming from the header area after a spirited run - I can't check right now due to the blizzard out here, but I suspect I too have this oil spot on the cylinder head plate. VIN 2100 range, 3K miles. Sounds like the same gasket problem that plagued earlier subies?

This isn't a head gasket issue like the early EJ251s but might be an issue with the gasket under the plate or bolts becoming loose over time.

I think I'm starting show signs of this issue.

Ah - think we might have to re-torque those bolts on the cylinder head plate?
