drove rt 125 in shamokin, pa with a bunch of cars that were much faster than mine...in a straight line. Rally with 2 gtrs, 1 f430, cls amg, many e55 amg, c55 amg, etc. Was sponsored by amg of the northeast. What a road!!!!! if anyone has a chance or wants to set up a meet to drive it again, I'd be down in a heartbeat. I drove from 6:30 a til 8 pm and loved it all! but especially the sections of 125 we did really twisty.

So pissed I opted full retail for mine back in April of 2012, then it arrived in October and was only exclusive for a few months before the others came out.

Why be mad?

I bought my Subaru diffuser at $500+, knowing full-on that there's cheaper options on the market.

To each their own.

I meant I paid $800+ to have something exclusively for a while, but now there's the same piece for 1/8th the price. It's different because when I bought mine there was no sign of an exact replica coming out. That you paid $500 knowing there's a $100 version out is kinda weird, unless you were forced to buy it because it came with the BRZ you wanted that was already on the lot.

I could understand if these were cheaply made knockoffs, but they are quality ABS plastic, with all the OEM hardware just like the OEM units. I normally would never buy replica parts, but in this case I could never justify spending a lot on any diffuser, so this was perfect.

Not weird, I bought it because I did not want to have cheap replica items on my car.

Case in point: the late model 180SX Type-X had a rear spoiler that was 3 pieces from the factory, and costs $600+. You can get a 1-piece fiberglass replica for around $200-250 10 years ago.

After sanding and painting, they both look identical...

As for paying $800+, I can't help you on that one. I paid ~$525 with the car ( I had the dealer order it for me), and installed it myself in about 1 hour with little work.

Plus, the genuine Subaru part has a serial number on it, the replicas do not.

Again, to each their own. Someone will eventually make a cheap replica of the STi lip kit, or make their own STi-ish Gurney flap... whatever floats your boat.

Have you seen these replicas in person? I have seen the real part and the replica, and cheap is not a word I would use at all. In fact, if these replica manufacturers were making the OEM part, I would not be disappointed. That's how good they are. But hey if the stamp or serial number is what makes you happy, by all means stick with OEM. I totally see the logic (not being sarcastic at all).

I am not discounting the replicas, I have not seen them nor do I care.

My point is, to each their own... people get too worked up over how good/bad/expensive/cheap a product is.

Plus, I am one of the "old school" guys that support legit, original vendors. I don't give my money to vendors or manufacturers that make copies of an original design, copyright or not.

Basically what burr said. I agree with you 100%! Sorry, I should have included that these "knockoffs" are pretty much the exact quality as OEM. That's really my gripe. I know there will always be cheaper parts and I prefer quality, so I'll pay more. However, paying $800 (or $500) for a part that others are paying $100 or less for to have the same QUALITY is a unique frustration. That's all I was getting at.

My car is full of genuine parts. Mostly OEM GT-86 interior. My exterior knockoff will be STI-replica wheels, but that's because they're in a size and offset that Subaru doesn't offer.

I appreciate your input, though, and didn't mean to knock your purchase of the diffuser. I'm glad you paid less than I did! hahaha

Pretty awesome for 1/5 of the price compared to an OEM!

JDM tips

Takumi approves.

Tips were installed last week. Debadged "SUBARU" today. Glue residue was super stubborn to get off even with WD40 and in 90 degree heat. Gonna roll with the BRZ badge for now but I'll probably rip those off too.
