Almost 8 years on bump. Back in 2012 when we had a pre-production BRZ to work with, we were pretty excited. We couldn't have guessed how much this car would mean to the enthusiast community and to ourselves individually. It's interesting to look back at what we knew (and thought we knew) about the car 8 years ago and everything we've learned since then.

A lot of us forget just how fun these cars are stock and how different they were for both Subaru and Toyota when they came out. Looking back and comparing "feel," driver feedback, and driver involvement to a 2013 Subaru WRX is astounding. It's far from perfect, but Subaru upped their game big time with this car and you can tell they've taken some of those lessons with them to other cars.

It changed a lot of our thought processes, too, like what it means to actually improve a car. I was already a suspension nerd, but this car really motivated me to learn more and get into some of the more advanced details. For a lot of people, this was the car that got them to learn how to wrench, drive, race, and more.

Anyway, just feeling a little nostalgic as the decade comes to an end. Looking forward to what comes next for the BRZ and GT86 platform.
